Carwings v1.0 - RELEASED

Hey guys, sorry I've been quiet this week, have a couple large projects on the burner, just took delivery of my new bike and have been busy over in the motorcycle forums

I am still planning on releasing an updated version with all the menus that have been worked on by the community. It's definitely larger than a two minute job!

I think most or all of the menus that have been emailed to me or posted here. If you dont see you menu and want it included in the next release, post it up!

There are still some menus that need finishing. like the OSK, but stay tuned there will be a "mega-pack" release

Nice look R33vit! Good to see someone playing with different art themes!

Anyway, Here is the updated beta directory (cmd prompt - dir *.skin > all.txt)

Two things:

1) This is the best RR skin I have seen, by far. Seriously, big thumbs up and thankyous to blk02si and everyone who has contributed.

2) Have you thought about calling it something else? I hate to be the one to bring this up, but calling this 'Carwings' is just begging for a trademark-infringement cease-and-desist letter from Nissan's legal people. One of my favorite open-source projects just went through a name change after they tangled with a much smaller company than Nissan, and I'd hate for anyone to get in trouble over something so easily avoidable.

But anyway, keep up the good work.

Then the question would be - rename it what?

I'm not that worried about it, its just an open source skin. If it were a commercial product that I was selling, making profit on, then the concern would be real.

The day I get a cease and desist letter,

I will proudly rename the skin:

"©ĀŘЩїйĢž"

or

Different kettle of fish.

That was a website that had a similar name and was in a similar business.

We are uing carwings or nissan as a site name.

Granted we are using their logo and brand name, but we are doing in a sort of homage.

We are not doing it to make money.

Yes the big as$ed lawyers could come down here and give us a desist order but that would only get them more bad publicity than good (hope they read that bit if they read this thread at all), and then it would go underground and be passed on and spoken about via PM's.

How many winamp skins have been canned because they are built around pioneer, clarion, alpine stereo images?

Also the iDrive skin has been about for two years or so now, still vaiting for ze germans to come and hit me. (or maybe that's the reason both my sites are down

)

Sort of, I want to tweak them slightly.

Also I'm in the process of doing a freefone background so it fits better.

Hopefully I'll have the finished over the weekend.
