no idea why overlay buttons flash - i've never seen them do that, perhaps as you said the umpc is too slow. mind you I run a 1.2Ghz celeron in my car and it's fine there.

I just came across this issueon my 1.2ghz celeron car pc as well when i tried to use IGO-8 with overlay. it worked fine on the laptop but in the car the overlay flashes ... i'm not sure if it is the overlay or the way that the GPS program refreshes it's sceen and the pc is jus not powerful enough to handle it.
I'll investigate and update the thread.

Thanks for letting me know Valheru... I got the feeling it's igo8 with igozoomer thing... cuz i know igozoomer has alot to do with refreshing as igo 8 itself doesn't refresh itself when out of focus... Igozoomer takes care of that... A question, do these light weight skins have significant speed advantage over heavyweights on 1.2 celeron or any equivalent? I am just speaking from the size aspect..
but then again, i didn't experience that with my laptop.... hmmm.....
Mine is running fine on a 1.7 in my laptop with IG3.
The lighter skins are supposed to be a little faster and easier for slower processors, but more so for low RAM computers. Since the computer doesn't have to load a huge amount of images, it takes up less of the RAM, and when switching between screens should make it a little faster. The larger skins that have huge jpgs and such fill up the RAM quick and if you use more than a few screens or run the "RELOADSKIN" command, there may be some latency. On my laptop, I see only a slight difference between my skin and those of other skinners, but I have 1GB RAM. On my old CarPC, it was only 384MB (256MB+128MB) RAM and would sometimes get clogged up with the heavyweights and it would take a second or two to switch to the next screen.
The other reason these skins are designed this way is it's easier to remain consistent when you have all the screens based off a small number of images. In the car, the more consistent it can be, the more you can use it without taking your eyes off the road, and thus safer to use.

the problem with the flickering is down to the IGZoomer program which as brandensin rightly points out redraws the GPS screen because IGO won' twhen it looses focus. IG3/4, Dest7 etc don't need to do this - hence the overlay works great. On my own TEK3 I run DEST7 with overlay and it is perfect.
regarding the skin size question ... monkeyracer pretty well answered it.

yeah... it's igozoomer... no overlay for me then...
monkeyracer, good point...... didn't think of it that way.. consistency is very important in carpc enviroment as i do not wanna search for the damn buttons while in driving...
something you might try is to reduce the graphics card acceleration - it might help with the flashing overlay ... that was a little trick mentionmed to me recently - thanks carputer1 - but haven't had a chance to try it.
I'm working on a way of using igo at a res of 800*480 rather than fullscreen, this way we dont need igozoom etc and the overlay would work with no flashing.

but, without it, you still would face the refreshng issue when out of focus unless you call focus cmd(is there?) everytime you click rr button... If you are looking for 800x480, try spawn's ver. over at digital car web site..
