Garmin RR: Overlay and OSK for GMPC Updated 11/09/08

Can't get it to work properly. When I use this line:

"GMPC","LOAD;GMPC.skin||RUN;$garminpath$;!CDP",GMP C.skin

Nothing happens, only the overlay shows. No GMPC skin and Garmin doesn't start.

When I use:

"GMPC","RUN;$garminpath$;!CDP"

Garmin loads but at the wrong resolution and the overlay shows but not in the right place as Garmin isn't at 800x600...

When I use "GMPC","LOAD;GMPC.skin"

The GMPC skin loads...

So it's only when both are used in the same line none of them load. Individual they work.

Any ideas?

I think you probably have done this, but have you set garminpath correctly in rr.ini?
GMPC should fill the skin dimensions if this is set up correctly.

I have plenty of bandwidth, but will probably dual host it with the forums here.

One thing to note with the blog is that this wasn't all my doing, I had ThunderStick and ElCamino's help, and I think credit should be shared. All I basically did was the graphics, TS did the script, and ElCamino did the overlay plugin.

Yes the path is set correctly. It also runs when just using this part oft the line:

"GMPC","RUN;$garminpath$;!CDP"

But at the wrong resolution. And when trying to use the entire line, nothing happens. Only the overlay loads but not Garmin or the GMPC skin. I don't get it. It should work, I know, but it doesn't...

did you copy over the 800x600 files?
if so, then I will have to look at it a little later today, I use 800x480, and that would work fine, maybe I missed something getting it into the 600 version.

Yes, the files are copied over. They also pop up when I only use this part of the line:

"GMPC","LOAD;GMPC.skin"

Also the overlay works correctly at 800x600.

Ok, I think I found a workaround that seems to do the trick.

In Exectbl.ini I've split the "GMPC" command and made a command called "RUNGMPC"

Now my Exectbl.ini looks like this:

In my skin file it now looks like this:

Now everything seems to work except for the fact that the GMPC.skin isn't transparent. It's red instead?

Since I didn't install any maps yet I couldn't check how and if the keyboard works. But I by the looks of it now this is gonna be a great little add on! I wanted to put Garmin Mobile PC in the car for quite some time now but the lack of a keyboard always kept me from doing it. I think my doubt's are over now.

While my setup isn't used on a daily basis( I live less than 2 miles from work ) I love my GMPC and have been waiting and hoping someone (with more know-how than I) would work on a solution to this problem. John has done well with DFX 4 to get Garmin into RR but, you including an OSK (with the help of others) is a great stride toward getting GMPC to work like some of the other satnav systems. Although I haven't had a chance to try your mod I hope you will continue (as well as others who add to RR) to get this to work.
