ok if your want info ,, here it is ,,, i will not spoon feed you then lol...

theres a label cmd "STATUS" this shows the value of what play is doing ,, ie stop , pause,play
blue & john made a nice test app called skintool , you can use that to see the value of status ,, just put the cmd in the box select label and check auto update
then just hit play in you skin you will see the change

now i suggest look through skin cmds.txt in your docs' folder and history.txt look for how to use

setvarbycode for thet status cmd ,,,,, then you can use a indicator useing byvarx with the images you want to use

Thanks Carputer1, I have that working now. Next on desire list is to display Vol% only when (and for a few seconds after) adjusting volume. Is this possible? or, is this possible for a mere mortal to achieve?

I don't think your computer is the problem, I am having this same issue on two different systems.

I hoped I could just have 'play' icon on the OFF layer and 'pause' icon on the ON layer (I have done similar on radio skin with band button changing FM to DAB) I guess this is not that easy. The command on the play button is "PLAY". Can you point me to some reading material that may help me, I am new to this.
It is supprising how once you start with RR you start to want to make it work your own way, its just a matter of how much time you are happy to spend on it.

I designed a play pause button for DFX and I figure if I shared it with DFX I can share it with you. I made a custom font with the play and pause. The y in play as the triangle play icon and the e in pause as the double line pause icon.The status, actually shows the words play and pause, but since the letters of the y and e are the play and pause icons and then right justified in the button, with an appropriately sized label window in the box, you only see those icons.

I tried this with images, but it just wouldn't work. I also tried a toggle command with images, but toggle has no relation to what the actual play, pause status is.

So I remembered a while ago someone asked about making the play button display when paused or stopped. Well I finally had a minute to use the suggested solutions, and thought I would post the results. It is done with a font, so it takes the skin color and needs no art work changes.

Drew is the name of the font included. Unzip the file and place the font in C:/Windows/Fonts.

It is right justified in the label so the Y becomes the play, the E becomes pause, and the P becomes the stop. Obviously you may need to adjust the alignment on your play button.

This line needs to replace the red line below in the bottombuttons.txt in the skin folder.

Revised to show Play when paused or stopped, and Pause while playing. Function rather than status.

Found an issue with skintool and the new options of CUSTOM LIST that are deleted !!!

unless someone wants to take it over (skin editor that is)
id love for a complete new one, but thats prob not worth it

but for your issue, i think u can just edit a text file
skin editor is really out of date

i use text editor
