Based on the following threads:

it seems that you have to write three lines of skin code for each IMG you want to display: one each for the ON, OFF, DOWN layers.
Would it be possible to add an ALL option that would display that image on all layers?
I actually did look into this not too long ago for allowing a indicator to be placed in/on a button and have it work properly w/ & w/o the ind having to be blinking. Which I think is what your probably really trying to work around
