    Iguidance4 and dfx4.0 problems

Not really sure if this is the right place but I'm trying to use a smartphone while on vacation to figure out my problem and forums are a pain. It's been working for the longest time but just in the past day or two I've been having issues where I'm using gps and it will just lose signal as though I'd unplugged the gps antenna and the only way to get it to work again for either gps or the dfx compass is to reboot the pc. I was wondering if the antenna was starting to fail. But yhis only happens while gps is active. Not when viewing the "gauges" screen in dfx. I also am having it where Iguidance will just freeze a few moments after I start it, and restarting gps jut has it freeze again. For this I also have to reboot it once or twice to get it working. I'm actually off on a roadtrip in co right now so I'm really limited in the research and debugging I can do. (forums via a smartphone suck!). So if anyone could offer suggestions on these problems you'd be a real lifesaver.

I had to quit using the port splitter xport on my box as it suddenly quit working. GPS would work for a bit then quit. Sometimes it would freeze. I've just got iguidance using the gps directly now and it works fine. I've been too lazy to investigate the xport issue.

Check this thread for xport problems. Dowload the latest xport and you should be back in business.

Well yes it was directed more towards you, but the OP did not give enough info as to how he was aquiring GPS Signal, so yours was the question that could be answered.

Sorry guess I didn't give enough details. I do use xport to split the signal between dfx and the gps software. Originally it had auto set as port 15 so I then split it to two other com ports. Curiously, when it stops receiving signal I checked the deviece manager and it no longer detected anything on that port though it still saw other thongs like my Xm antennna and my accelerometer. I tried remapping it to port 5 instead of 15 after a reboot ( and splitting to 6 and 7 ) and this time it stayed working for several hours, until I arrived at my destination for the day. Not really sure why this should matter. I'm wondering now if it is either my USB hub or my gps antenna that is failing now. I want to test and see if the computer fails to recognize anything else the next time the gps signal is lost. I'll also try the latest version of xport though with what I've seen so far it doesn't look like that's the problem. If there's any additional info I can post that might help someone recognize my problems just let me know. Being on a roadtrip I'm usually too tired or just in the wrong frame of mind to properly debug this problem once I stop driving and make time to post on this

Couple of things to try. Are you using an air card of any kind while on this longer trip, I have had them steal my GPS port in the past.

Show hidden devices in hardware manage and clear any that are unused, or show up multiple times. Each time you plug a device of any kind into the system it creates an instance and from what I understand that is not an unlimited number. For instance if you have 4 usb ports and plug the same Flash drive into each one, that creates 4 device instances. This will also help your system boot faster.

Uninstall your GPS in hardware manager and reinstall the driver.

Remove xport completely, and try your GPS without it and see if it is any more reliable.
