Thats because Lexi are soooo good!Originally Posted by 0l33l
Boris, you could do a generic servo control and relay interface that hooks up to any system where the user selects the angles needed and the things actuated at each angle for the vent dial in the software to tune it to their car. then you jsut need to connect the servos up to the dials and relays up to any switches. YOu could also have an input for any indicator lights that may be on aircons switches etc to show aircon is on (my aircon comes on when I select windscreen but the PC could be told this by the indicator in the AC button).
This would allow the existing part mech/part digital systems to be retained but controlled by PC.
Most cars have 3 dials - fan, temp and vent settings and two buttons - recirculate and A/C. Ok this would never work for digital systems like your lexus or audis but cars like the current scooby, my 306, a lot of american cars could easily be used with system.

you can have preset setups for certain cars and also a pic and mix setup - ie choose the type of fan dial you have, the type of temp dial you have and then place the various vent positions as they apprea in your car.
Yeh. But then comes the hardware part. What hardware are we going to use? For my project, my grandpa is building me a controller board.Originally Posted by Scouse Monkey
How would it work if you have sliders and not knobs? Have you seen the IS300 knobs? Only the outside rotates IIRC.Originally Posted by Scouse Monkey
BORIS STOP THINKING SO HARD!!!!Originally Posted by 0l33l
I am talking about a car like the scooby WRX that has 3 dials and 2 buttons. SOOOO many cars use this setup - especiallyolder ones which are exactly where the market is because newer cars are generally easier to fit LCDs in due to them being designed with satnav in mind whereas old cars have to have the AC controls relocated.
As for hardware a simple stamp circuit would work for the 3 servos, 2 relays and 2 inputs. The user would be required to do some cutting/soldering but it would not be too much trouble.
Oh and as for sliders they are normally actually levers that are hinged about a pivot so you can use that for the servo to rotate around.
and as for the lexus knobs, if you take the controls apart they will turn a pot somewhere so jsut conenct the servo to the pot.
another car with this setup...(off the mp3car front page)
