    I just love your avatar!

    @corsab

Normally... I just don't like to flame or attack anyone in the forums. It's just bad manners, no matter how incredibly stupid and poorly considered their comments are.

Having said that, I am not about to attack you here... there are many others here who are far more articulate than myself ().

I do however have a counter offer if you are willing. My house needs painting. The gutters, the eves, the window sills and all of the major surfaces. It should take about a week of fulltime work to complete, assuming you are not opposed to working 10 hour days (that includes saturday and sunday). I'm offering 5 euro for the project. If you are interested, please let me know... I'll supply the paint.

This would be about the same time required to produce a reasonable "basic" skin (I speak as if I posess the photoshop skills necessary... and I am guessing). Just playing around with skinning is time consuming, let alone starting something from scratch and understanding 'your' true requirements. To offer the price of a cheap bottle of wine for someone's efforts is ludicrous beyond description. Your request is absolutely silly. It would have been more polite to simply ask if someone would do it for you out of the kindness of their heart.

    Please, think before you post.

PS: If I have insulted any skinner with my feeble estimate, I humbly ask your forgiveness. It was intended more as an illustration than an accurate estimate.

Man, i was just thinking today about asking for someone to just do the skinning for me also, but was thinking like 50-60 dollars, im glad i didnt thiough, yAll might had attacked me and made me cry or something

BTW: just to note a off question during an off thread? why does most of the skins have the commonly used buttons on the opposite side of the screen from the driver?? causing you to reach the furthest to use those buttons... (1) I REALLY WANT TO KNOW, (2) maybe Corsab might have a chance to wipe his tears and retract his question.. **shame on yall**

    Hey Chuck....

Everyone here gives their time willingly and with consideration for compensation. It is better to offer to pay and ask for a price than offer a price if you don't know what you are asking for. If you are going to offer a market price, then it is incumbent upon the person requesting said service to educate themself prior to making an offer. If then receive a price higher than you are willing to pay, it is then your privilidge to move on to another candidate. If you receive several estimates beyond your expectation, then you have to reconsider what you are willing to pay, pay the higher price or do it yourself. I don't know what you do for a living, but I'm sure if I offered you $5.00 for your services, you'd likely tell me to find someone else. Offering a vastly low sum for a service if you don't know what you are asking for is simply rude ignorance. Offering a low sum if you actually DO know what you are asking for is just plain insulting.

A typical graphic artist who is salaried in Canada would receive about $27.00/hr... that's for just one hour and that's just an estimate of their compensation. The kind of work we are talking about takes tens of hours, so 5 euro seems a bit insulting... wouldn't you agree?

I thought I knew how much time consuming making a skin was.. now that I'm taking onto it, I know how badly I estimated it would take.. been at it since last week and I still have a few screens to do... and I am only EDITING them... I can only assume this was an inocent offer from someone who has no clue about the work involved in it.. I even have pointed him to the current Alpine skins (mediacar thread)... and for the listed functions, it seems the original skins would be fine..

No words for comment for such a “generous” offer.

    (1) I imagine it's so the buttons can be easily seen with a glance. If the buttons are on the near side of the screen, chances are they would be obscured by the steering wheel, which in turn would mean you would have to spend longer looking at the screen to know where to put your finger!

    (2) Is there an outside chance that Corsab did a typo? Perhaps he meant to type 50 Euros

Actually, this thread has sparked some interesting points. Until this post, nobody has ever suggested that a skinner's time is worth anything. Donations for programmers have always been second-nature but I don't think any skinner has ever asked for donations for a publicly-released skin.

I'm not about to ask for donations for CONSOLE_RR but I think it would be nice however for people to appreciate the amount of our own time we spend creating skins and entertaining requests for additional colourschemes, logos, etc. Not to mention, giving away a PSD file to a skinner, is like giving away the source code to a programmer. But we do because this is a community and we like to share our ideas.

Now of course if you'd like to donate, PM me for my Paypal details, I'm not going to say no

Thats cause we dont think your time IS worth anything Stoo! Is it????

And maybe we all misunderstood Corsab... if he was indeed just wanting some small modifications like he now mentioned (changing launch into TV), then yeah, maybe skinners can get a few dollars by making these small modifications...
