most people are using 800 x 600, but saying this.. you can run the skin as any res as RR can change it for you.
anyone? im seeing 800x480, 700x420, i am a web designer just getting into carputers and i KNOW i can make some kick *** skins, so help me start. thanks!
ok well 800x600 would typically be the biggest res anyone is running on 7-8 inch screen, so thats good. dont most people have non 4:3 ratio screens though? wouldnt it make more sense to format it for widescreen?
also is there a guide on skinning? i can do all the art, but i'm not sure where to set everything outside of that.
yeah... 800x600 is the most common resolution, but when displayed on the wide-screen LCDs they are supposed to show on a ratio that is much like 800x480... so basically I recommend making the skn images at 800x480 (so that you draw everything the exact way it is supposed to look like on the wide screen), then save the images at 800x600 so that it doesn't require resizing... the physical aspect ratio of the screen will then "squeeze" the image into what it looked like at 800x480... Otherwise, if you make a perfect circle on a 800x600 image, when it gets to the Wide-screen LCD, it will look "squeezed" vertically... While RR has no DEFAULT resolutions, the skins have a general.ini file that defines the DEFAULT resolution for EACH skin.
PS: There are also a few LCDs that can do 848x480 so there are skins based on that resolution as well..
thanks guino. oh and in skin commands.txt you keep spelling below as "bellow". it only has one L. just lettin ya know.
hehehe... sorry but english is my second language.. so expect many misspellings and errors... some words are always hard to wrap your head around..
hell guino is better at his second language than i am at my first...
yea i made a skin at 800x480 and it went off the screen on my test comp, but that was uing 800x600 on a 4:3 screen. worked fine in my car with the 16:9
1998 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6 4x4 in Evergreen Pearl Metallic, Lifted, Locked, and Armored. CarPc in custom console with molded touchscreen.
Photobucket is being updated, if a picture i posted no longer works, please PM me.
oh, did not not know that. my bad dude.
Yeah, if you can make them in both 800x480 and 800x600, I think it would be the best. Because then people like me that can run there screens at 800x480 don't need to have any unnecessary resizeing done to the image.Originally Posted by hakhawk
