wouldn't these **** up the ones that are named and have no ID3 tags though by renaming them with blank tags?

Also how are these sites able to identify an MP3 that has no tags and a name like track 3.

    I have no idea.

I'm sure they can be set to miss ones that have no ID3 tags.

Suggest you make a sample copy of your music in a different location, download a few of them and try them out.

I'm pretty sure it's not possible for software to identify an MP3 w/ no tag at all. Tag & Rename works if you have know artist / album it can pull the tracks down for that particular album and you can match them up IF you know what they are (ie. file named "track1.mp3" is track 1 on the cd you are searching).

The albums are all named, but teh tracks aren't. Would it just use folder name as a basis for its search.

I don't want to **** all my music up as I have nowhere big enough to back it up. Suppose I could try some in a different dir first.

I would use Tag & Rename.. It's a sweet program. To answer your question..

Say you have directory strucure like this:

    Linkin Park\Meteora\Track1.mp3
    Linkin Park\Meteora\Track2.mp3
    Linkin Park\Meteora\Track3.mp3
    ETC

In Tag & Rename when you select those tracks to be tagged and renamed it will go out to the internet and match up the artist / album then display all the tracks with your files beside them. Here you can match up the tracks with what it has (if you need to move them around) and then apply the tags..

Ok.. Can someone provide an actual link to the PSD files? I want to make a search button and if these are actually available it will make it much easier. I've searched this entire thread and also the MC1.0 thread and can't find jack..

    Thanks

Try MusicBrainz. It tries to identify tracks by length I think. It seems to have more success when dealing with albums, ie track 01 - 10 in one folder. I guess it works in a similar fashion to FreeDB. One good feature is it tells you how confident it is of the results, from 50% to 100%. Alas it's online database is still patchy, not much Ivor Biggun in there I'm afraid.
This may have been mentioned before in this thread, my apologies for that but I felt it was worth mentioning again.

ok, this may be dumb, but I need some help. I've set RR up to look at a browse file to point to CD, HD, and Flash drive. If I go into CD I can't get back to the browse file, and if I eject the CD, RR locks up...any suggestions? (I'm using MC2.0...I knew how to do it with my old skin..but it sux)
