No progress has been reported from anyone yet...
You guys that say you have no skills - I didn't have any skills when I started it either. I mean it - I'd never done a single thing in Photoshop before I created this skin. You guys also didn't have any car pc installation skills when you started your car pc project, but you read up and learned as you went. So the only thing that should be stopping you from learning is a lack of desire to do so, which is a fair reason (that's why I temporarily stopped), but certainly not lack of skills.
My install is working again, so I'll probably start to fiddle with the skin again soon - but I'd really like some help finishing it.
Yeah man!!!!! That is the perfect skin!!!
I am willing to help, too. I have downloaded the PDS files, and will take a look at them when I get home. Photoshop is a peice of cake for me, so it shouldn't be any problem to modify colors and stuff.
The only problem is that I don't know anything about RR, and the skins. I a "new-born" (2 days) to this world of Carputers, RR, and MP3car.com.
I will take a look at what you have. I have read through the entire post, but am still not sure as to what the actual progress is. What things are we still wanting to acheive? Either post a progress report here, or email me and I will make a check list.
This is something that I want badly, so I will do what ever I can to make it happen, and everybody else can benefit from it.
Great - glad to have some more help.
Status is the same:
Still left to do:
- Audio player subscreens (main screen is done)
- Internet skin
- FM radio skin (if anyone wants it)
- Mixer skin
- Skin switching skin
- Fix colors (make orange text more red, like top bar)
What I have done:
- Audio player
- XM skin
- main menu
- Nav/GPS skin
What I did was overlay my skin onto someone elses, so when you run it, it'll be easy to see which screens aren't done (they're the OrangeCFX screens rather than the ones that look like mine).
At the very least, I'm looking for help in finishing the Photoshop work for the rest of the screens - and then I can do the skinning work to make the buttons work.
I'm also interested in suggestions for a color scheme (still keeping the button layout the same) that will work better in the daytime with the usual screen glare.
Thanks for offering to help.
Over the week-end I had a few hours to mess with this. What I am doing is trying to mimic what is allready done, but slightly changed. I hope that this is a problem.
For day time visibility we need contrast. What I am doing is creating a skin with white text, and black buttons. There will be shading and gradation of the button to create a 3D effect.
I also want to modify the volume control to make it a more dominant button, and also a mute button. I will post what I have drawn (line drawings, no color) so that you can get a sense of what I have going on.
I hope that I can get some major stuff done this week, my wife was feeling a little neglected last night. I will post soon.
I definitely encourage anyone to modify the skin to fit their needs - no problem at all. I'm not sure you'll get the daytime contrast you want with any sort of black background/buttons, but give it a try.
I've done some more work on the red version of the skin (henceforth called "Teutonic Red") - I'll post it up soon.
I have to say this skin is looking fantastic! I love the clean oem look of it.
Im just about to start installing my carputer into an E39 after a few weeks of bench testing. Would definately offer my services but i have no idea about programming! fabrication is no probs though!
I remember seeing this waaay back in the day i didn't know nuts about car pc's.
If anyone has the psd's still... i'm willing to give it a shot!
