Sweet05, thank you for the great explanation. However I couldn't do one thing that you explained. Now bear with me for just a sec and maybe you can see why.

For starters I am using Adobe Photoshop CS Central European version 8. I found the layer for the RADIO. Actually the layer is for all the text on the MENU pictureand it is labeled "Text" in the layer box. I copied it and made sure that the original was "unviewed". I tried using the “text tool”. However none of the tools in my tool menu are called “text tool”. But never mind that, I used this one which I figured was it:

    Attachment 31077

The cursor never changed when i put it over any of the text. All that particular tool wanted to do was make a new layer of text like you said would happen. So I tried some of the other tools and to no avail I couldn't edit the text. Did I miss something? I made sure that I had that layer selected when I was rtying to edit the text.

Please post a screen grab of just the layer window with the text layer in question visable and selected. It might be a rasterized layer (I touched on that earlier). If it is rasterized the test tool won't work. And yes that is the correct tool for text.

Yeap, it is a rasterized layer. No problem with the help I have nothing better to do lol. This does change things a bit though. Text that has been rasterized basically turns that text into a picture therefore it is no longer editable as text. Sooooo...... What to do now hun?

Note: The description for #1a assumes you don't know the font you need to use or you don't have the one you need. If you know the font name you need and you have it see #1b. I would strongly suggest reading both though for educational purposes.

1a) Create a new layer using the text tool with the text you want at this time the font really doesn't matter.(the one you have circled above just click anywhere really and type. This will create the layer.) After you type the text in click the move tool and move the text close to where it needs to be this doesn't have to be exact yet just close then click the text tool again this will allow you to change the font on the text layer you just created with out having to select the text itself. Now you should have the text tool selected the new text layer you just created selected and the text in a non-edit mode (should be no cursor flashing on the text line) On the top tool bar click one time on the font name if the list drops down close it. Next use the up arrow to go all the way to the top of the list of fonts then use the down arrow to slowly go down one font at a time til you find the right one or something that is close. I think the hard part is going to be to match the text font with the original if you don't have it. Once you get a close match move the text around with the move tool and the arrow keys to get it lined up just right. You may have to switch back to the text tool and change the font size.

1b) If you have the font you need select the text tool and creat a new text layer with the text you want. Switch back and forth between the move tool and the text tool to get the font size, font color and alignment all matching as close as possible.

    2) Now to remove the old text. Select the text layer that came with the PSD. Select the selection tool (the top left one in the left tool bar). Draw a small box around the part you want to remove by clicking and dragging. Once the original text has a box around it select "Edit>Clear" and the unwanted text should magically disappear.

I am going to assume that the icons are rasterized also so you will have to do much the same procedure to remove them unless they are on there own layers in that case just delete that specific layer and use text to make you own icons.

If you have anymore questions just ask. There have been a few offers from people to do this for you (I would even be willing to do it like I said it would take me about 20-30 min and I have nothing but time) but it sounds like you would really like to do it on your own. So stick with it you can do anything you can imagine with photoshop it just has a steep learning curve but the possibalities are endless. Just check out the two skin links in my sig to see a few examples of photochop magic.

Just wanted to show you a picture of what I have done so far. I feel like a first grader who just spelled out his abc's for the first and just has to show his teacher!!!

For starters, I know the font is not exact but it is close. What I figure I will do is go and change all the text so the font matches. I did some searching here on MP3car to see if anybody knew what font was used in the BMV2 but I didn't find anything. I guess I could ask Feb (the maker) but I haven't heard from him in a while. Do you happen to remeber the font that had the NES controller in it? I just did a search on google for a NES font and i found one but it is just that, no special characters.

Yeah I really want to learn how to skin and use PS so that I can do one of my own day. I really like your MAS skin! To bad i still don't have my 67 coupe, other wise this would look really cool in there. Even if it is more modern than the car and the Dash. When I had her, I came real close to putting a carpc in her. But the wife wouldn't let me.

As for time, i know what you mean. I am in Iraq right now and that is all i am doing is killing time over here. This september will be a year for me over here, this time. I have spent, as of right now, 16 months over here in this country. I am ready to leave this place and never come back.

I am sure I will be asking you more questions and thanks for the help.

The icon I was talking about was of a keyboard that you could turn upside down then edit a bit but that was just an idea and I looked it woudn't work. I would suggest google images find something there then edit it to your liking.

Here is an example of how to make a color photo black and white (well tecnically this is gray scale but lets not split hairs)

    Name: Preview1.jpg

To achieve this look switch the image to grey scale uning "Image>Mode>Greyscale" once the image is in grey scale you can adjust the contrast and brightness (using "Image>Adjustments>Brightness/Contrast") to get it to look more black and white.

Here is the original image I used. I found it with Google Images keyword: "NES"
    Name: nes2.jpg
Views: 502
Size: 59.1 KB

It took me more time to find the image and make this post than it did to do the chop it is fairly simple.

This is the psd file for just the icon itself. If you want to use this one go ahead or make your own if you don't like the look or even do it the hard way and use the original and try to get the same results as me.
    nes2.psd

I will let you toy around with this and if you need any help on anything in the actual doing let me know.

ok ive been really busy and i just saw your last post.

how do i get that image into the the other one? I opened your file and did a drag and drop on to a new layer of the menu_on, but it is big and i can't figure out how to resize it. Also i know that when i am done with editing the menu_on, i have to make the menu_down and menu_off. I know you said it is just messing with the layers but do you recomend a certain way? Also how do i make a skin for the my NES? I use JNES, if that might help?

Ok, i figured out how to get your NES into the image and resize. That was easy, boy sometimes things can be so obvious.

Now that i have the main menu_on all setup what do i have to do to make the menu_down and the menu_off? I tried messing with the layers but didn't get the right effects.

And also can you help me make the NES emulator skin?

    Thanks
