I am in the process of redoin my house with all home automation (lights, security camera's,zoned audio, distributed HD video, etc)

Im still in the planning stages and do not know what Frontend to go with that will satisfy my needs. P3rv3rt B3ar i read some of your post over at xlobby( i knew that named looked familiar) Im looking for a Frontend (Like MCE) that has everything all in one.. Xlobby looks good but i dont believe it supports live TV(DVR) on a HD TV Set...

My main goal is to have all my HD TVs (3 Plasma's, 1 DLP) running some kind of MediaCenter software(Like MCE)..the reason why i say like MCE is because MCE is great, but the main thing its lacking is Zoned Audio, actually thats the only reason why i cant use it, or i would
I will also be setting up 3 inwall touchscreens around my house to have access just for Security Camera, BabyCam, lights, ZonedAudio, climate control
The 3 inwall screens will kinda be like controllers..so i looked at Mainlobby,CQC which are both great but they lack live TV and are really not mean to used on a TV with a remote

RR is great, ive been using it in my car for about 3yrs now..and would love to see it dev. into a custom mediacenter frontend, how hard would it be to add home automation stuff to it, including DVR (live TV)

To all the coders\dev's would it be hard to add zoned audio to RR, while showing what song is playing in what room

You may want to look into AIVMS as it will do most all of what you want. It has home automation control capability, a built in media streaming server, IR control of AV equipment with TitanTV one-click interfacing to just about any recording device including cable and sat DVR boxes. It also has a skinable media interface, but we place very little emphasis on that aspect, since AIVMS was designed based on the concept that if something is implemented correctly there is simply no need for a GUI layer between your AV control and your HTPC desktop. Some examples of this concept are windows desktop shortcuts that can select AV inputs by sending IR signals when clicked, and Full control of AV system components using nothing but a multi-button mouse. Together, they provide a seamless transition from your HTPC to your AV System, components appear as just a collection of applications on your HTPC or PC. You can even navigate on-screen menu's with your mouse.

The media interface is provided simply as an interface for external touchscreen terminals.
We are currently working on some totally wireless LCD VGA Touch screen hardware that should make locating touch terminals throughout ones home a breeze to accomplish. The hardware uses tiny Wireless USB hubs along with WiFi VGA for video transmission. No more tearing apart walls just to run wires...

bring it back from the graveyard! :P

i've finished my long dreamed HTPC last weekend

it's nothing too fancy, but that old duron 900 with 384mb of DIMM 133RAM, ATI All-in-wonder RADEON and a generic pci 5.1 card did the trick

I know i can't play HD content with it, but for my music, divx and standard dvd collection it's all fine

the question is about front ends

i've been messing around RR almost a year now. and none of the HTPC frontends i've tried seems to be as mature as RR

stripping out some RR features useless on a HTPC as GPS, i guess RR would be an very impressive and light option for HTPCs

but it lacks some skins specific for it
does anyone knows about RR HTPC's specific skin?
my design capabilities are almost null to draw me one from dust

maybe modding some skin. but wich one

thanks for reading such a big a post :P

I already use BeyondTV and it works really well, but I'm in the begining stages of a home theater project in a star trek theme along these lines http://www.reighn.com/theaterphoto.html and will use a small touchscreen embedded in the captains chair with a RR front end in the star trek theme (LCARS) as a second monitor to control beyondTV, so not exactly as most of you are describing, but RR none the less.
