man, I wish there were others who saw the potential with this type of setup... I still think this is an awesome concept & I can't believe it hasn't caught on more

how is it that no one else see's how revolutionary this concept is... or is it just that it's way to complicated & the resolution dependancy issues that keep interest down?

kpj, I think you deserve a LOT more credit for what you've done here than what's surfaced in this thread.... I don't get it....

    Thanks Mate,

I developed this skinning approach as a concept after a comment by Guino in some thread I read. The thanks should go to him ! I suspect that the next release with better GDI+ support will give many more options on types of graphics etc.

How are you getting on with the 768 x 1024 resolutions ? I can make you some button images "panels" if you want to fit that resolution.

    Cheers

You're both revolutionairies in my book! I too have used the portrait mode of my tablet and gave it up for lack of support. But this skin concept is just too kewl to let it pass with such low profile. I understand that LS and CDR have a significant following but this concept ranks right up there to me! Hell even with the several flash skins that I've tried, I didn't commit to a new tablet system (faster, newer, better) until this skin came out. Can't wait to run this on a 2.4G processor in the car!

Thanks guys, but theirs only three of us in this club !

Sorry I haven't been about much over xmas, I lost my PC hard drive, and everything on it pretty much. My last backup was late November, but it wasn't complete, and I lost all the skin master files, along with a concept to change button text which for a via MII went rather fast compared to the Minimal approach, and also a load of test images and files.

I was well ****ed off. I still havent got my PC back to were it should be yet, its scary ! You never think about regular backups, until you need them, but boy has it changed my view.

I hadn't thought about using a screen on its side, but I can see the advantage. I might have a play with a few basic images, and try and style a new definition file to support it. Once the basics are their the images should be easy to develop, and of course use whatever background you want.

Give me a few days to have a play....

    cheers Club Members!

Hey, I'm a fan too, just haven't had chance to play with the concept. Once I have caught up with the updating of my current skin projects and program projects I will definitely be looking into utilising some of the methods used here.

SHHHHHHHH.... don't say "CLUB." That 4-letter work could get us all banned (remember the REP Club)

    The Rep Club,

maybe before my time ? I have seen a few avatars with a pink rep club included, but I don't know of the history. I thought we were all in the CarPuter club, but somehow I think there may be another tale in there somewhere lol.

Anyways, I have been playing with buttons and stuff today, and would like some views on button sizes and placements for a 768 x 1024 skin. I hadn't thought about this until I saw Turbo's install, but it has possibilities !

Conceptually would you still keep a single screen view ? or split the screen into two landscape images one on top of the other. How about button arrangements. I favour 8 buttons across on an 800 x 600 display, but 768 may lend itself more to two lines of 7 buttons. I need your input on layout before I start on the rest of the skin.

If you split the screen, you could scale an 800 x 600 image to one half and have it change on a slideshow basis, then skin the other half for the buttons, and a digital dashboard monitoring cpu, gps, and any obdII functions tat you can get hold of.

I'd appreciate your input on this guys.

    cheers

I may be backpeddling here a bit but I think it would be better to figure out how to make the sizing end-user configurable. I mean just between the three of us we're running 800x600, 1024x768, 768x1024, 600x800, 800x570, and 600x770 (I drop the last 30 when I'm running my winamp toaster plugin).

    How can I help?

yeah, I too think if it was adaptable would be best for wide use, don't know if that's possible really... from what I first learned about this method it seems not I guess, as the buttons are hard coded for a specific resolution, doesn't seem to be a way around this...

as far as portrait mode, I usually try to set it up as 2 areas... I have at times actually ran 2 frontends at the same time to have nav & music at the same time, & I have at times built a custom skin with one frontend... I usually set up a large section as the visualization & then the list below.... there are so many possibilities...

the install before this I had a widescreen in portrait mode... it was 800X1280.... I could divide that as 800X640 twice...

I'm sure roadrunner can display 2 different things at the same time, as this is how it does dual screens... I haven't been able to make a full skin on this concept though, my abilities are more limited to modifying existing stuff, & I have never done any skin from scratch myself....

The first step needed is to define a layout for portrait screens. Once this is completed, the file that contains the x,y locations for the images needs to be edited to support the different resolutions.

Its currently designed for landscape 800 x 600, but creating 1024 x 768 or 640 x 480 shouldn't be too difficult. Once these files are created, then I can develop a config screen to switch, or have it in the skin.ini file.

For portrait mode, there is no screen template yet. This needs to be roughed out first before the images can be developed, so ideas on the layout need to be provided.

    @GizmoQ, I wasn'r aware of 800x570, and 600x770 ! Why are these sizes used ?

In terms of priority, would it be

    1024 x 768
    Portrait layout
    768 x 1024
    600 x 800

    Cheers
