I agree. I gave up on the scene a few years ago when AMP bit the dust and I wasted a few hundred dollars on RouteBuddy.
Fast Forward to 2009 and the scene remains the same. Sad, really.
That's a shame, Dave. I haven't been over to MP3 car for a while and was really hoping that CFE was more advanced. But I understand the time and attention constraints.
Edirol UA-1EX - It's from Roland (as in Roland professional synthesizers). It's USB so you bypass the so-so quality "Line Out" earphone jack.
Add a AudioControl Epicenter and AudioControl Three.1...
Hoping the new release of RouteBuddy will supplant iGuidance under Fusion (I'm no longer running Parallels)
Thanks for the detailed answers, Neil :)
I should add for those that do not own Route Buddy with the complete North American maps - it is deadly slow to refresh and to navigate. As in almost unusable. Not a slam - just the truth.
Same here. iGuidance is the ONLY reason I run Parallels....
I would be happy if Route Buddy would just work like iGuidance - viz, I plug in a GPS receiver and typed in an address and it told me how to get there.
I need nothing more. Everything...
Yeah, but you're keeping it alive as well, Scott
For me, the whole point of a GPS system in a car is to FIND where I need to get to. If I already know my way - why bother?
I was one of the many mugs that bought Route Buddy + the entire North...
Schweeeeet!!! Thanks Dave!!!
Major kudos on thinking WAY outside the box and mad electronics skillz..!!
Something else. I do not need engine management/monitoring and I do not know of anyone that needs this functionality as a major component of a CarPuter.
Personally, I already have access to this...
I'm a proponent of touchscreens if the interface is geared towards DRIVING. Think BIG buttons and coloured icons.
1. Music with a very simple interface for shuffle, repeat, prev. track, next...
I'm not running Winamp. I run Tiger 10.4.9 with FrontRow and occasionally run AMP 1.x
I use Parallels (Coherence on) only for iGuidance and BU-353 with TinyXP. GPS is the only thing I use Windows...
With all due respect, if using BootCamp, why bother having a Mac at all? You'll be running Winblows the same as a Mini-ITX system.
I use Parallels which gives me Mac OSX with the functionality...
I looked into Crossover - it's pretty much a commercial version of Wine, which sucks for most applications. I used Wine a while ago and was unimpressed.
Example - Office 2003 works just barely....
Use TinyXP instead of full blown XP Pro. It helps Virtual PC speeds tremendously. You can find TinyXP in the "usual places" :tea:
I use the Edirol UA-1EX. Sound quality is way better than splitters :tea:
If you have a wide area wireless connection (cellular), you can stream low bandwidth iTunes radio stations. It's works OK, and it buffers fairly well most of the time.
But it sounds very rough...
Ah! A version of Wine. Your mileage may vary :tea:
100% agree with Bugbyte.
Mike, do you have any of these in stock (cable on the right)???
I have the Y cable (came with my 1900) but need to get the little male plug and wire.
