Windows probably indicated that it was full and working because of a firmware bug in the battery pack. (yes, the battery pack has it's own onboard firmware)....
You can buy it right here on mp3car.com.
..and yes, they are pricey, will take up about half of your inital budget....

Playing MP3's on my carputer, through a Creative MP3+ external soundcard to the line-in of my HU sounds a lot better than playing the same MP3's burnt to MP3-CD's on the same Blaupunkt Los Angeles...
Been on holiday, taking my carputer out for the real test.
I have not tried it with the onboard soundcard of my M9000, as I'm using an external MP3+.

The Opus for instance has three input wires. One for ground, one to the battery+ and one for the ingition switch.
The drive itself should fit. Not sure about the front, maybe you'll have to chenge the front plate.
It probably doesn't cost that much to produce. But you'll have to add several months/years of research and testing.
Large manufacturers of normal AC-DC power supplies can spread that cost on the...

You could also wait for the new nano-itx system, with even smaller footprint than the mini-itx. The mainboard is only 12 by 12 cm.
