MSNS install
Coilpacks Woot Woot!
I started off awhile ago trying to build a sleeper. my first iteration of volvo contained a rather simple carputer that contained a few mp3s and played some videos. It was a dell optiplex gx350, mounted in the trunk, powered by a 400w inverter running to a radio via Aux input. It was simple, reliable and worked great. Along with it were some subwoofers and amps for the speaker setup, but that was removed due to weight.
This essentially is project 2.0 with new parts on a newer car. I am going to perform some weight reduction on the car, but for the most part, I am not going to care too much about weight this time around. I'll just up the boost insteadAnyway....Strictly a work in progress. I'm still searching for a few parts, when time and budget permits to finish the carputer and audio setup. The tech portion of the car is nearly finished, with the manifold and turbo build commencing soon.

Hey im doing my first setup as similar to your old one with the 400 watt inverter. You say everything went smooth with that install but everyone and their mother on this site bashes inverters. Can you confirm that you had no problems or noise at all while using an inverter? Also, good luck on your 2.0 project.
not quite. I had to change out my spark plug wires, going over to a double-grounded setup and had to change spark plugs over to e-type. The e typoe (NGK BPR7ES....colder range for more boost) have built in resistors for less electrical noise. Next, I double grounded my ignition coil. For the PC, I had to double ground the pc, grounding its power supply to the car as well as the PC chasis. Finally, I double grounded the inverter to the vehicle's chasis then used a radio shack ground noise isolator on the power to the inverter. I also used another noise filter on the PC audio jacks going into the radio. This eliminated a large amount of noise, but if you cranked the amp past 80% amplification, you would still hear some. That being said, I'm not that big into bass music and those 3 10" woofers were more than enough for me.
I'm hoping the coil pack setup ,along with a bit neater harness running the megasquirt will alleviate the engine based electrical noise issues at least. I'm going with a DC power supply this time and am doing a battery relocation to run the PC off of it. Been doing some research here.
Anywya, I guess most ppl here can't appreciate the speed and are more into the comp aspect. I guess thats why its mp3car.com.
I'll post more when i have the comp in teh car. Its built and i'm doing things to prep it for the car, but i'm not ready for install yet. Gotta get the big turbo on first.
hey nice job with the install. i also have a volvo 940 and was wondering what stereo unit you're using that has an AUX in and how you installed it. where did you route the wires to/from the trunk? also, would you happen to know how to open the front door up to access the window gears? (mine fell off its tracks) thanks.
Nice, Im about to do an install in a Volvo 740.
Still same old volvo and no computer...
Dude I think you're in the wrong forum...
