Thanks. First I removed the fade/balance knob from the stock head unit and then mated it to a rotary encoder. I got a Phidget rotary encoder board without the encoder, and just bought a compatible one separately. I did it this way because I knew I wouldn't have space in that spot for the whole board plus encoder. So I mounted the encoder and knob there, then ran wires from the encoder to a plug, which plugs into the phidget board, which is mounted on the computer chassis. The Phidget board plugs into USB, then I wrote a little program that constantly monitors the encoder, tracks the value changes, and sends the volume change commands to RoadRunner.
68rustang, don't know why you can't see the pics, they seem to be there.
That is weird, If I copy and paste the picture link directly into the browser I can see them but they are not showing up in the thread for me.
does the forum have a limit on posts before I can see pictures?
Now they all show up, strange.
Oh, that is just awesome the way you hooked up your backup camera. That was ingenious! I'll have to do that once I build my carputer.
Nice to see you actually use your H3 in the way it was intended, and not just on the road. But isn't it kind of a bad idea to have a computer with a spinning hard drive in it if you're going to be driving offroad?
Sweet install! Looks factory.
