    VW Passat 2.3 V5 2002 [Lots of pictures]

    It took me almost 4 months to get all done, but itīs all worth it.
    Car specs:
    - Volkswagen Passat Variant 2002
    - 2.3 V5 original 125kW now upgraded to 140kW and +30Nm by Racimax.com
    - 18" alloy wheels with 225/45 rims
    - Hiltrac coilover
    - Foliatec Chromolux window films

    CarPuter
    - Jetway J7F2WE1G5D motherboard
    - 512mb ram
    - 100gb SATA disc
    - M2-ATX psu
    - BT dongle
    - WLAN dongle
    - 20 channel Navibe GPS
    - 2 x camera (1 in front, 1 back)
    - 7" wide touchscreen

    ICE
    - Stock speakers in front/back doors
    - 2 x 10" BM Z10-SL subwoofers
    - 1 Farad B52 Capacitor
    - SSS2000 amplifier for subs
    - Shark SHG-4500

    Software
    - Windows XP Pro SP2
    - Roadrunner
    - Mapfactor 6.4
    - XPort
    - ShowGPS
    - Winamp

    I wanted to make my CarPuter setup looking OEM, so I decided to make the single DIN hole in my dashboard to a double.

    Some before and after pictures.

    As original as it can be, this is how it looked when I bought the car in september 2006


    Hiltrac coilover in red, yellow and blue, the black parts are original (this is to the rear)

    Circuitboard for the servocontroller used to motorize the LCD, this so that the viewing angle is correct when sitting normally in front seats.

    Yeah, that was it, LOL, was trying out a new browser.

    DAMN thats a sweet install. You got everything in there. I love the stock/factory look. everything from the sub box, control switches under the armrest, the servo for monitor tilt are incredibly well done.

    Im curious, did you completely cut out the back end of the radio cage to get the moterboard plate to fit in there?

    What did you use for the monitor to create the pivot point inside the radio cage/trim? I didnt see any mount hole on your bezel for a hinge or pivot point. what is the servo controller actually doing to move the servo, jumping the voltage applied to it between two levels? in or out? any schematics for that unit?

    What monitor did you use for your install? any problems with glare?

    What alternator do you have in there? 120 amp stock? Was that with the capacitor enough for your electrical draw?

    Did you keep the stock OEM speakers in the car? I didn't see any after market amp for your speakers.

    Know of any good how to or guide on pulling out that radio cage like you did? whats involved?

    Yes thatīs what I did, I bought a double DIN conversion kit from Fullspeed and replaced all of the radio cage with that.

    You can see the hinge marked with the two red circles


    The servocontroller doesnīt "jump" the voltage level but it jumps the frequency of the signal to the servo, and by this it moves from one end to the other. There are two switches, one for the outer position and one for the inner so that the servo will stop in the correct position.

    Here is the schematic that I have drawn for the servocontroller unit. I have it connected so that when I have the switch in the control panel for the monitor in ON position it automatically moves the monitor to the outer position when I switch ACC on and when I switch off the ACC or the monitor switch it moves in.

    Itīs a normal 7 inch wide touchscreen. Well yes the sun isnīt itīs best friend, but I think I will manage...It turned out that the tinting of the windows helped out pretty much...

    The alternator is stock, but I have not checked up the amps on it...I have not noticed any problems that it would too small...

    All the speakers in the doors are stock OEM (8 of them) I have placed the amplifier for the stock speakers under the glove compartment. (Will post a picture of it as soon as I get one )

    A Dremel, a vacuumcleaner and patience is all that is needed I used this guide (in german) with some modifications.

    In the glove compartment I have made an USB plug (in the upper left corner next to the light)
