If you're going to do this much work, resale value is not an issue since you will probably keep the car as long as you can. Otherwise just buy extra dash pieces to put it back to stock if you sell it.
Also, not to bash your project, but I'm curious why you put hatchback emblems on the 4 door? GLI would be the better emblem to put on it. Unless you plan on chopping the trunk off.
I personally would put the screen higher up like Yev said, where the cd player is now, and relocate that stuff to where you put your friend's screen down lower. But that's just what I'd do.

What power supply is it? Different PSU's will cause a different drain on the battery; the higher the current, the quicker the drain. Also it's your alternator that will be powering the PSU when the engine is on, so you only have to worry about it draining the battery if you run it without the engine. However, if the added current is too much for your alternator, it would start to mess with the battery... Not a good thing.
Check the PSU's current draw rating (it would probably be around 25 - 30 amps) so if you are running your a/c, with headlights, wipers, and your stereo full volume, and your computer running full speed, then you may have an issue if your alternator can't keep up.

if you want to play with inverters 300w would be MAX i recommend.
analyze what functions you want to have if you just want a navigation, internet, music library than you can probably order the set frommp3cat for 279,99 they do ship worldwide registered, it also comes with smart power supply, that will turn the computer on with the ignition, and shut it down, or put in hibernate with different time settings.
on the other hand in my case, i found out that Creative X-Fidelity Sound Cards, are one of the best when it comes to audio, if you aiming for a perfect audio you might want to use your existing regular size pc, and just rebuilt the case to fit. Opus smart DC-DC power supplies from 150w- 320w from $120-210 USD.
But if it's your first you want to be on the budget, my first pc was a Mac Mini, with inverter, and lilliput screen

whether it's an inverter or a dc-dc psu it doesn't matter, they're going to cause a drain on the alternator.
An inverter is less efficient though, they have to convert the power just for the desktop supply to convert is again. Why not have a PSU just regulate it, no converting needed. This makes it way more efficient, which means small alternators will probably have no problem dealing with the current draw.
I recommend the Opus 250, or the 180 depending on what components you'll be using. You don't want to underpower the PC.
