I would love to do something like this, you basically rebuilt the entire car to fit your needs and wants. Paint job looks stellar!

You have yourself a very nice vehicle for a 15k investment.

meatballman, I still am procrastinating on the vents, I need to do the inner slats & it's real tedious work, I haven't really sat down & just done it, there are a few other things I need to button up too....

the latest mod I'm doing to this fx is adding paddle shifters. I'm using paddles from the new g37 & building them in to the steering column, they work nice & that's just about done, just gotta pop it in & final wire it... it's pretty fun to drive with the paddles for shifting

I'm on page 7, and decided to skip to the current end (page 14). I'll go back in a few minutes and continue on, because it's a great thread with really creative thinking and excellent execution.

My wife drives an 03 FX 45, it is the silver color that your's started out (pre-crash). My wife's has black interior (which, BTW, is the best thing IMHO for interior colors). I get black in every car, when available - it is just so much easier to take care of.

I wanted to see what you thought of the Toyo Proxes. I have them on the stock 20's on her vehicle. They are great tires, but my only gripe is that they are very loud (road noise feedback) compared to some other vehicles out there.

A friend of ours loved my wife's FX so much, that he bought an FX45 almost 2 years ago, which I believe he got from NY. The one he purchased has a turbo system on it that is custom that some shop up there did. It never ran correct, and a shop down here has jacked with it for almost 2 years and it will never run correctly. I'm a big car nut, and even I told him he should just junk that turbo and take it back to stock. I love turbo cars, but there's nothing out there to help manage the ECU with boost on the 4.5L v-8 on these cars. He's sunk enough money into it to figure that out, but at this point he's just being stubborn.

I'm out, going back to read the next 7 pages...

the 45's are a bit of a headache with turbocharging, from all the research I've been doing it seems the 35's are much less of a problem, & there are tons of sucessful g35's & 350z's running turbos without problems like that... the fx is tricky to tune cause it'll use a piggyback controller for the ecu & the only way to tune it properly is on a 4wdyno... the 45's don't have the options that the 35's have. I'm talking to vinnyten racing about the twin turbo setup & also considering a few other options....

yeah man, the toyo proxes are horrible for road noise... the ones I put on here were supposedly low milage used, & they looked fine really, but the fx had a growling noise that I couldn't stand.

at first I thought it might be a front wheel bearing, & after reading on a forum that front wheel bearings were sometimes an issue on these fx's, I changed both front wheel bearing hub assy's... NO DIFFERENCE...

so then, I put the fx up on a lift & spun up the whole drivetrain... everything was very quiet, except the transfer case which had a little growl to it. I figured maybe that's it... I have a few connections in infiniti so I had them actually put a new transfer case in it for me... NO DIFFERENCE...

I finally put the original wheels back on & the fx felt like a different car man, I've been driving it now on the stock wheels for the past few weeks, till I get another set of tires... my proxes still have a ton of life left on them, they look just about new really, but I just can't stand the noise... I've taken whole cars apart & soundproofed the crap out of them just to quiet the cabin a bit in the past, I won't stand for these tires at all

I've done a lot of research on tires for the fx & I came to the conclusion that the yokohama spec-x are the tires for me... I really wanted to do runflats & free up the spare space for the system, but have heard nothing but nightmare stories on the runflats, so the yokohamas are what I'm going to get I think... I've come to discover that the toyo's are notorious for this problem... they look the best but they just suck. a tire is for more than looks...

since were on the subject, heres a current picture of my fx on the stock wheels, I can't wait to get these off of here, my main reason for delay here is not in getting the tires, it's more in me sorting out the tire pressure monitor system components & I'm also looking to add a second tpms that also monitors temps & works on the pc... I'm talking about robbybmw's tpms mod... really nice stuff there, I think I can just drill the rims to accept an add'l tire valve but the maya 3 pc wheels have a funky fill valve config & it's making the tpms issues a real pain, still working on that

the more I own this thing the more I love it... the fx35 is a great vehicle with a ton of mod potential... keep me busy for a good long while I think, I'd much rather have the 35 than the 45, the only way the 45 would be an advantage would be if I decided to do an LS2 swap.... that would be better suited to the 45 over the 35 I think, but not by much. I guess if it had to stay stock the 45 might be the ticket, but once you're looking to mod the 35 has much more room

Well, I can't begin to tell you that you've made a major transformation on your new ride. My wife loves her's so much, that she's seriously contemplating getting a new one. If she decides instead to get a GS430 or M35/45, then I might just take over the FX. I would seriously consider trading it for a black on black FX35 with sport and tech package. I would love to go with an 06 though, since it has the upgrades. My wife didn't get the tech package in her 45, but that's ok. I'm going to continue following this thread, because it is one that I'm liking.

I recently got rid of my '01 Z06 (about 4 months ago). I was tired of it after 6+ years, and I really missed having a truck. I've got an 07 Toyota Tundra now. It is a regular cab, short-bed, 5.7L model with bucket seats. I've got lots of fun plans for it. One of which is a TruckPuter. That's why I've been looking at your Fujitsu setup. I've heard you mention the little widescreen 16?? model laptop that Fujitsu makes that has a daylight readable screen also. I'm thinking that might be an easier screen for me to mod into an install, considering the space that I have (or don't have) to work with.

BTW, on the subject of tires, the standard equipment tires with a 20" wheel on the new Tundra is actually a very nice tire, in my opinion. Here is a link to Tire Rack, where you can see the customer reviews on it. It's one that you might consider, if you haven't already looked at them.

pockets, those look like some nice tires, not sure if there agresive enough for me really, & there lower speed rated... the yoko's are a good tire & they have sizes that I can stagger & still match od front & rear, so I can go a little wider in the rear.

yeah, the 06+ is the one to get if you got the choice, but a great deal on an earlier one & for a few grand you can update the whole exterior to the latest look. the newer dash looks nice too of course.functionally there the same truck 03-08 though really, I mean the newer ones got a bluetooth that's been complained about more than anything, everyones waiting for a firmware update

, it got a lane departure system added later models & that's really it functionally.

I don't know what your dash looks like in the tundra, or if it'll take the screen, but the 8.9" fujitsu is a p1610. it's actually pictured a few posts up, that's the one I made slide out of an escalade dash. it's a little smaller than 2/3'rds of a 10.4" really. it's not small but it is smaller than a 10.4"

Looks like they are in the neighborhood of $1200-$1700 on ebay. Not sure if there's a better place to look. Tundra has a weird dash, but not as bad as some others. Here is a picture of the Scosche install kit, showing a double din replacement radio sitting in the hole.

That gives you some idea. I think that this can be used and modified to mount the 8.9" screen from a P1610. For comparison's sake, here's a picture of the dashboard layout of a 2007 Tundra.

With regards to the tires - the speed rating is definitely not as high. That wouldn't be as big of a deal to me, as I doubt that I would ever sustain speeds that high for more than an instance at best. I'm more of a 0-120-0 kind of person. I drive more and more like grandma, and I'm only 37.
