Doesn't that rear view mirror arm have the 2 ball mounts on the end with the big spring pushing them apart? It seems it would be pretty tricky to make it longer.
I don't really have a solution at this point. right now I needed the screen usable, but out of the way for the main screen, so I pulled the sunglass holder out of the headliner & hacked a hole in the sunglass holder & just hung the screen off of the metal bulk header in the roof, stuck the sunglass holder back over it & it looks 70% to a casual observer maybe, but not really "good" at all. it could be if I finalized it the way it is & moved the mirror, but I'm not happy with it enough to finalize it so it's just stuck there
if you make up your mind that you are going to just do it, pull the whole sunglass holder out & you'll see where you can mount to, the rear view mirror looks easy enough to extend. my thoughts are to cut the 2" extention bar & find a tube that it fits in, then black out the tube & epoxy it over as an extention, extend it a bit & it'll be fine... I'm sure the wiring has enough slack for that too, so it should be easy..
removing the sunglass holder is a real pain, you have 2 choices, remove the headliner & remove all the clips that make it an assembly with the headliner to begin with, & then put the headliner back in & work from there, or actually break it out, trying to not damage the headliner & then go from there. I'll admit that I just ripped mine out, I wasn't going to take the headliner out, my thoughts are if I'm going to take the headliner out anyway, then I would sueade the whole upper interior black, I can do that later so I ripped it out, it didn't really damage anything so it goes in & out from the front now. this was the butchery part I mentioned![]()

Hummm, I'd be really scared of damaging the headliner. Looks like a pain to fix it, and I'm not sure I have the abilities to fix it. Also have to check the rear view mirror thing.
Thanks anyway for the quick reply, I'll keep looking for a solution.
some are press fit, I thought these might be too... if it's a spring then it would be the same really, just an extention for the spring too & a way to clamp it, may need to tack weld it if theres a lot of tention... could be a little bit of a project too I guess... guess I'd have to see it to figure it out, never cut one before really, I guess you have?![]()

I've seen a broke one. The main problem with extending that arm is the extra weight it creates. You get a lot more leverage which can make it droop down when hitting a pothole.
I have no idea what the FX35 one's look like, but on older cars you can twist the old metal tab off the window and mount it lower. Is that an option?

hurst, yeah, I guess I keep forgeting about the scary part for many guys... I got over being afaid a long time ago... to do anything theres risks I guess, & you will have to make screwups in the beginning too, but theres only one way to do it & that's to just do it
what about a sun visor mount? maybe still better than nothing?, at that point you might as well make a pedistal mount & take it in & out. don't know what to tell you really past that.
you might be able to find a good interior shop that could just do the screen mount & bring the wires down to the kick panel area, then go from there but the finish trim would still be an issue?? fear & car chopping & modding don't go togeather to well
jason, the extra leverage might be an issue, but I was only thinking may 3/4" - 1" maybe. I did remove a mirror button on my montana, but i wasn't too afraid of breaking the windshield cause it's allready been out, I would hate to break the windshield & have to crack the factory seal in the fx unless I had to, I would try to avoid removing the button but i haven't screwed with it enough to even think about any of that yet really, the extention idea was just a brief initial thought... if I was going to attempt anything like that I'd buy an ebay mirror, but there few & far between, & expensive.

If you take a pair of channel locks, lay them against the glass and twist it clounterclockwise back and forth it should pop loose. I've done it several times.
Or you might just add a second button and leave the stock one in place. I just figured you wouldn't like the 2nd button visable.

some come off easier than others, I've done some that were kinda easy & a few that refused to break loose & took glass with them... when I did the montana the windshield was brand new, just put in that day, it took me almost an hour to get it off, vicegrip turning back & forth, cutting in around the edges with a blade and using adhiesive remover and a heatgun from the outside to lossen it up, that was a tough one for sure. I'm thinking when I really get down to it, I'll probably eliminate the rearview mirror all togeather really anyway & it'll be a video camera feed instead.
