Hey turbocad6, awesome craftsmanship! I'm a newcomer to the forums and was curious about the epoxy molding compound you are using. I have used a micro slurry mixture for similar work and was wondering how it compares to the EMC product you're using.
The resin I use can make the micro a little hard to sand and it takes several hours to cure. I would guess that it also has the same advantage over bondo, in that it doesn't shrink nearly as bad.
thanks turbo cad. keep up the good work, cuse you do great work!

afterdigital, forgot your postI used the stock overhead console & built from that.. my upper screen is fixed, doesn't retract in & out or up & down... I have pictures of how I did it in this thread...
cirrus, I'm not familiar with a micro slurry mixture, is that just microballons & resin? hard to say how it compares for me really. the max emc does take a really long time to set up & I have seen no shrinkage at all with it, it's not very hard to sand the next day but a few days later it's harder to sand, never really difficult though

Yep, just microballoons and resin. You can vary the viscosity of the slurry by the amount of microballoons you add to the resin. So you can make a really light paste/filler out of it. I am going to have to try out your emc suggestion, sounds like it's easy to work with.
I've used microballons before just straight with resin. you get a very hard end result unless you really do a very high microballons/resin ratio. I'm curious how adding microballons to the max emc would react, but it is already pretty light weight stuff & sands easily enough as-is... I'm going to try mixing some with microballons & see what it does to the properties of the max emc. comparing a microballon slurry to the max emc, the max emc feels more like plastic as an end result than a resin & it is way easier to work with...
def try it, awesome stuff to work with & excellent adhesion to plastics, especially when roughed up to increase suface area contact, def my new favorite "stuff", can't even tell you how many things you can do with it, can make &/or repair so many things with it. you also might want to try some of there colorant too, just like 5% of there black colorant added to the mix & the end results are a really nice natively black through & through material

Get ready for the mother of all post ressurection!
Awesome work there ^^^^, I'm just giving it credit!!!
Well, I was rereading your thread again. You're an inspiration for all of us! Heh.
So now I'm beginning to think about installing in my "truck", a Toyota Sequoia. I''m thinking about a Fujitsu slate tablet there, maybe only as a display, maybe as the main computer, but certainly not the only one computer - I have lots of plans for this truck. With the tablet, I'm also thinking of installing it in a way that it can be removed from the car, like the solution above.
Can you also give me more details on your plans for the console that you eventually scrapped - since I have a huge console too, maybe bigger than the Escalade -- but also what is that drawer made off mainly? A industrial telescopic slide, like this?
Where can you find stuff like this? If you don't remember, never mind, I understand that., it's been a while!
Just tell me how's that ST5111 is going. Do you know if you can fit a touchscreen to it while keeping it inside the case?
If not the Fujitsu - no major updates on the reflective screen since the ST 5111 - ( slates are dead? what about the new Apple Tablet? ). So I'm thinking about a Motion Computing LE1700, F5 or J3400, but the LE1700 can have both touch and active digitizer. Do you know about their screens? Some cool pics here:
Cheers.

Looks promising![]()
that j3400 looks sweet, boe hydis 180 deg viewing in a transflective, that's the second screen I used in the montana, awesome screen, best I've ever used...
I haven't done anything with the new tablet yet, old one is still installed & still going strong, but I've been thinking about swapping out to the new one with a ss drive, probably will before the spring, but right now I'm getting ready for the motor swap, decided on twin turbo's & a haltech ecu... more to come on that
that slide drawer with power window mechanisim came out sick.. I never put up any completed shots but it's rock solid & is used all the time without any issues, I will show more of it next time I have it here. I made that dual slider track from 2 heavy duty roller drawer slides from home depot, 2 of them togeather is very sturdy & looks to be similar to that industrial unit you showed. I'll try to get you some shots of what I winded up doing with the console for that too...

TT setup? Wow...sounds promising, can't wait to see more.
Yes, please, give us some more details on the slide drawer and the console...I'm about to buy an used console on ebay just so I can tear it apart and see what's best.

Hey Turbo, I know your an Alpine head unit fan, as am I. Have you ever heard of the Alpine TME-M860 8'' WVGA PulseTouch Screen?
I would love to put my Alpine IVA-W200 into the glove box and mount this larger 8" touch screen into the dash and be able to control all my stereo functions including the H700 processor with it. It seems that it is not sold in the US and it is very expensive to get.FEATURES:
PulseTouch- Display
VisualEQ-
SPECIFICATIONS:
Screen Size: 8 Widescreen
LCD Type: Transparent type TN LCD
Operation System: TFT Active Matrix
Number of Picture Elements: 1,152,000 pcs. (800 x 480 x 3)
Effective Number of Picture Elements: 99.99% or more
Do you think I could find a nice inexpensive (under$300) 8" lcd screen and then buy a cracked Alpine touch screen cheap just to get the brain unit and then add a 8" touch screen overlay and get it function like the above unit? Or maybe even go 10".![]()
