Mr2 install Dell sx260
Been putting in a CarPc over the last few weeks, thought id post an update.
after a lot of research on various sites, especially on this site, thanks guys, decided to use a Dell SX260 i had lying around, a DSX12VD DC controller with shutdown facility, RoadRunner front end, and an external amp (as i wont have a HU anymore.)
Any way enough talk heres some pictures.
The power was taken off the battery and feed to a distribution block, 1 for the pc, 1 for the amp
I mounted the pc and amp behind the passenger seat using the dell bracket, need to secure the amp better, but am working on it. all the wiring goes under the dash, through the tunnel and behind the rear carpet. I mounted the psu in a project box and placed that in the cubby hole behind the drivers seat
Added a Griffin Powermate usb controller for the volume
I am planning to build a mdf box covered in black carpet to enclose the whole thing, but for now its quite well hidden if i recline the pass seat back.
i love the look of your screen. What size is that?
Sweet. Do you have any pics of fabrication?
Drew, Its a 8" liliput,
DMC12, Fabrication of what, if its the screen into the facia, i cant take the credit, a guy on another forum did it and i just bought it, he did do a pretty well documented thread on its construction if you want it, as for the pc cover, i haven'e started that yet.
I was looking at your project thread last night, wow, great car! and nioce job on the install,
Hey Richie... very nice set up. I have the SX280 and bought the DSX12VD PS based on this thread. I don't think the SX280 is much different to the SX260. I have a couple questions about how you powered your system.
1. How did you connect the power feature of the DSX to the Dell M/B. I'm not sure about the 260 but my 280 has the power switch soldered to the board.
2. Probably a stupid question but did you use the power brick? I'm pretty sure the DSX will replace the brick completely but I saw in another thread where a brick was used...
3. Can you provide a wiring diagram of your set up?
Thanks in advance.
Wow! i'm being asked for advice..a first, i'll do my best.
1 on the DSX there is a JP1, this needs to be connected to the back of the power switch on the mboard, i know it looks impossible to get to, but if your careful and take your time, you can dismantle the case and solder 2 wires to the power switch, effectively when the DSX detects a loss of signal to the acc feed on J8 it cycles the power switch, initaiting a shutdown.
2 Cant use the power brick , this steps down 240v to the 12v needed, so all you need to do is cut the lead and splice it to the Molex connector that connects to the DSX, this thread helped me a lot http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/powe...-solution.html
i decided not to put a relay in but instead put a little push-on/push-off switch on the acc feed and placed it on the dash which enables me to manually switch it on/off
I'll try and get a wiring diagram sorted and post it later.
any more questions just ask.
Thanks for the reply. I'll be standing by for your wiring diagram.
Also did your DSX come with a wire for the power on/off switch? Mine just came with a jumper/ shunt with no wire attached.
It was supposed to i know, but mine came without the molex connecter and fly leads, i just go tone from work, if your in the UK maplins do them, if not...sorry
 lol... "if not... sorry" hahah

The placement of the fused power distribution block is in a very poor place. Mounting it on the chassis with such unblocked area may result in a + to - connection if any conductive fluid touches the area.
