My Lexus SC300 install

okay..so its been a while since i posted..been kinda busy. but here are some shots of where im at now. im not yet completely done. right now im just running off of a power inverter and not the power supply i ordered yet. so everything right now is just a beta fit.

this is a shot of the glossy paint i got..before i repainted it again because it was too glossy.

and this is one of it not glossy anymore. this time i used some trim paint which matched a whole lot better and looked so much better than the glossy

i have to do a few minor touch ups when i reinstall it again. some things worked out better than i thought, and some not so well. i really need to get another amp for my sub, because the sound sucks with no sub..haha plus, for some reason, when i plug in my speakers to my comp, theres some static, and i dont know why. but when i plug them into my ipod, i get no static. any help there? i got new front speakers too, 4" alpine, as for the rears, i havnt changed them yet. they're still the 4" stock pioneers. i got some nice 6" jl audios for the rear i will install later.

i kinda have this problem when i connect my carpc to my sound system. i have all my speakers connected to my amp, which then connects to my carpc via an rca to 3.5mm jack cable. when i connect it, theres this static type noise also going on, like when a cell phone gets a call, and your speakers do that static noise, but this is consistent, and doesnt stop. can anybody help? why it does that? when i connect it to my ipod, it makes that noise too, but not as loud, and only sometimes happens. unlike with the carpc, it happens all the time and loud. any ideas? thanks in advance

Good job on the fabrication. Have you thought about painting it the stock tan color and painting the center black to make it look stock? All black looks kind of weird imo.

What's plugged into your cigerette lighter? I remember when I had my Ipod plugged into my cig lighter it made feedback. Right when I unplugged it, it stopped. I hope you're not using an inverter to power your CarPC!

Also another reason you might be getting feedback is from using cheap RCA cables. Upgrading to better cable ie Monster Cable might help.

Oh wow, how much you've done since the last time we talked! I have to scan those headunit wiring diagrams so you can figure out the speaker wiring.

Or, I can snap a picture of my amp and you can find the same colors on yours...

I agree with Chanh55, if you don't have nice wiring, it can be causing a lot of noise. Also, if you have power wire near the audio wire, it can create engine whining noises...

oh wow thanks! thats probably it then, the cheap rca cables. i just bought mine from cables to go for a cheap price because i didnt know those would be that important. then i bought some extension cable thing for it, because the one i bought was too short. so ill try with the monster cable.

and right now, its a temporary setup, but yes, i am temporarily powering it up via a power inverter. thats what was plugged into my cigarette lighter. i just got the power supply, but now i just need to get the aopen power supply adapter.

as for the color, i think im going to stick with the black all over because my interior is going to change color too. like all the areas which are dark brown color, are going to be black. im actually still unsure if i will stick with either all black, or black center and woodgrain surrounding. ill ps a shot so i can get some decisions on whether to keep it black or woodgrain.

The Monster Cable isn't cheap so try installing the PSU before you go and buy them. See if that gets rid of the static.

it's most likely a ground loop problem. if you are powering the comp from the inverter or a cig lighter socket you'll need a ground loop isolator to fix the problem.

try this, plug everything in, and listen to see if you have what's called alternator whine. when you are in park, rev the engine a bit. if you hear the whizzing sound increase as you're increasing the pressure on the pedal, you know it's a ground loop. the fix is to spend about $18 at radio shack on an isolator. hope that helps!
