I have a 2007 Mazdaspeed6 with the Bose system. I'm trying to connect an auxiliary input so I can run my Harmon Kardon Drive+Play iPod controller directly through the head unit rather than using the FM modulator. I've been told I can't do this and keep my Sirius. Has anyone had any success doing this? If so, how? I find it hard to believe that the "Media" button on the head unit doesn't serve a purpose.

Yeah, I agree. Just an inch would look a lot better. I'll try to get to a meet sometime.

    Install Details

As I noted here before, I use a Mac Mini and a Mac front end called Neon BoomBox for my audio/video and I run Garmin Mobile PC under Windows XP in the VMWare Fusion virtual machine. I use a Griffin PowerMate knob to switch between the front end and the nav software running in two different virtual desktops. Previously I had the PowerMate just velcro'd to my console, but over the Thanksgiving holiday I got ambitious and made a permanent installation. After checking fit in several places, I settled on the lid of the ash tray. I cut the structure from the back of the console with a Dremel wheel and then used my handy hole saw to cut a hole for the PowerMate. Using epoxy I glued the PowerMate to the ash tray lid and reassembled the console piece. Although this method hides the cool pulsing blue light from the PowerMate when the computer is asleep I still think this looks a lot better than the previous approach. Let me know what you think.

the only thing I see that could use some polishing up is your glove box door. Are you going to leave it like that? Your craftsmanship on the rest of the project is pretty stellar!

    Thanks for sharing

I didn't post any pictures, but I covered the inside of the glove box with a pocket of felt cloth. My Apple Bluetooth keyboard fits very nicely inside there when I'm not using it. I'll try to add some pictures of it sometime.

Nice install, I wish I caught this thread earlier cuz then I would've been able to toss my two cents.

    My screen:
Note: The bottom is NOT blocked off at all. The dangling cable is from my GPS puck, but it has since been relocated. This pic was taken when I was first testing out my laptop as a CarPC, hence the dangling cables and open glovebox.

The rest isn't really finished, so I haven't taken pics yet. I'm getting a VoomPC-2 case in the mail soon, so then the trunk will finally be 10x cleaner.
Where did you mount your GPS puck? I gutted the 3rd brake light on the rear deck (I have a spoiler) and put the puck in there- works like a charm!
Unfortunately, the USB controller in my EBY-701 crapped out on me, so I lost the touchscreen function. I need to pick up a spare USB controller and try to rectify it. For now, I have an Adessio EasyCat touchpad (similar to what laptops have), but it's not a very clean install, hence why there aren't any pics lol.
I was wondering why he didnt make it flip open instead of being stationary. It seems like a very bulky addition, it is very well done mind you, but seems out of place. One thing i like about the EBY701 is its versatility, I know because I have 4 in my install. Two of them I plan to have flip out of the dash. As you know the EBY701 is farily thick, so what I did is make the back half the screens stationary and only the screen part will flip up. i think this is the route you should take also. Here are pix of the lower half.

I extended the video ribbons and all wires. Only ribbon i could not find a longer version of is the button ribbon. So I decided to remove the buttons, i really didnt need them. The screens will get a very thin case and hinges to blend it into the dash.
