...you don't like it or is it just not interesting?
Hello everybody!
After almost one year I have finally completed my first car computer - for a newbie like me, it was quite difficult, but I believe I did a moderate job.
Anyway, I thought I'd share it with you and let you tell me what you think:
Specs of the computer can be found here:

And a full gallery in chronological order, including all the things that didn't work (in particular: almost everything that involved wood ^^):

My next plans would be to get some decent GPS (come on RouteBuddy, give us an interface for a car computer!) and/or voice control (OS X has some quite impressive voice recognition built in, would be a shame to not use it). Not necessarily in that order though.
edit: Some additional information maybe:
- 7″ CTF700-H Touchscreen (www.cartft.com)
- Apple Mac Mini (120GB HDD, 1GB RAM, Intel C2D 1,83GHz)
- Velleman K8055 I/O-Card (adapter for the steering wheel remote control + custom software)
- CarNetix P2140 power supply
- Blaupunkt MP27 headunit
- Mac OS X 10.5
- Frontend: CarFrontEnd (I'm just about to write a plugin for it to select songs like in front row... and of course there are some other, new FEs coming up: Neonboombox, QCar - just don't give up on the Mac :P)
So.... that's it.
Greetings from Germany,
Alex

learn to be humble...
I'm sorry, English is not my native language, so if I've written something offensive: I apologize. I didn't mean to... :-(
I like it, very nice! I wish I had bought a land rover instead of my audi...
Thank you! Sorry to hear that you're unhappy with your Audi, you probably just had bad luck. In my experience they're very nice cars.
Anyway, Land Rover just got bought by the Indian company Tata. I suppose it won't disappear anytime soon, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to get your hands on one :-) (I warn you: I hear a lot more people complaining about problems with their LRs than with their Audis, so in the end you might be worse off)
very clean install. I would have been much cleaner if you could mold the screen case to the console so that it appears to be one unit. it still looks good as it though.
Hi bembowe,
first of all: Thank you. You're proably right about the molding. I just thought the original radio was not molded into the console (i.e. had little space at its edges), so the screen shouldn't be either.
Thanks!
Did you already install a computer in your Freelander? If yes, where are the pics?![]()
