    66 Mustang

This is my first attempt at a car pc. I didnt want anything fancy...well not yet anyways. I wanted to conceal everything as to not take away from the vintage aspect of the car. That still needs some work. In the future I may make a nice wooden lacquered console that will conceal everything and look much nicer. Any who I thought I might as well post some pics. Nothing fancy...

Sweeeeet! My first car was a 67 Mustang Coupe, way before carPCs, dammit.

That screen a bit of a strech for you? On mine I installed a wood console surrounding the shifter from basically the firewall to behind the front seats. If I had done it today, I'd probably have put in some sort of folding door, to pop up right on top in front of the shifter, and put the LCD in that. Like this __S__ \_____. Fold flat, make a matching cover to conceal it when parked, PC in the tunnel of the console with fans and vents, that kind of thing. Just a suggestion. Building the console was pretty easy IIRC.

I would love to (one day) restore a '65 Fastback and trick it out with a custom PC install. It's on my bucket list for sure.

BTW, Dakota Digital makes really nice set of digital gauges for the early 'Stangs. http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.c...rod/prd205.htm

    Nice!

Yea ive seen the digitals, I have to say im not really into them, they are nice I just feel they take away too much from the coolness of a vintage gauge display. I like it oldschool. I already feel blasphemous for putting in a carpc hahaha. But i figure i can make it completely hidden and streamlined if i put in a nice full length custom wood console and none would be the wiser. The furthest i would go with the gauges would be the white face analog.

Like you wrote about the console, that is what im planning to do, but the screen wont be flat the console will angle up to meet the dash, somewhat at the angle it is now. And it will have a door like you say that will fit pretty snugly over it so it looks like a solid piece. I also plan on having the comp housed in the console. all one unit that if need be i can pull out the entire console with comp, screen and everything. Also the most exciting feature...Cup holders! Just behind the shifter. I just couldnt be patient enough to do that first haha I just had to get the carpc in there and play with it.

Nice setup. Going to carpet or plastic over that box? Where is the computer? RR runs ok on a P1?
    My opinion is my own.

Thanks, I probably will just leave the box as is, its only temporary until i build an entirely new console. Right now the computer sits on the floorboard behind the drivers seat. But it will be mounted in the trunk. When the console is complete I will put a new computer in the console. RR does run on a p1, not only is it a p1 but its 460 Mhz and 96 RAM. It performs surprisingly well, has little problem handling GPS, movies, and all my music. It is slow on startup but it runs RR decently. I have another computer that is much more suitable for media and whatnot. But I dont plan on using it until i make that console. It will probably be plywood then ill put pecan veneers over it. Or maybe something darker like red oak. I am waiting to build the console because im putting in a new AC/Heater combo thats going under the dash and i need to design it around that.

Dang good job for temporary. Looking forward to seeing it finished!

Oh yeah, I'm not a Ford guy, but that is a sweet looking car. I totally agree about the blasphemous carputer and not wanting digital guages. Now, if you could just get a stock looking radio with a fold out touchscreen.
    My opinion is my own.

Thanks, It will be a while till it is finished. Im heading back to school soon and I have no idea where i will find the tools i need there. So it may be something i do over winter break.
As far as the radio goes, im just happy it's stock looking and handles a 6 disk changer, and has an auxiliary stereo jack haha.
