Nice man !
I have been silently prosing around this forum for the past couple of months, gathering ideas on what to put into my carPC. Well tonight I finally finished it. I have put it into a 2003 Chevy S10 extended cab, short bed. The actual computer is a Artigo Pico-ITX that I picked up from Fry's Electronics, running at 1Ghz with 1GB of RAM and 240GB HD on Windows XP Pro. My front-end is Centrafuse 2.0, and I do have to say that I had a BLAST fabricating the mounts and everything that was put into my baby.
I decided a while back to rip out the spare tire jack and mount in the extended cab portion of the truck, I installed the tank circuit, computer, backup battery inside the spare jack cover; with the carnetix P2140 mounted on top of the cover. Ventilation became a concern for me, so I installed 2 12VDC micro fans on each side of the cover. (one blowing cooler air in, the other outputting the warmer air).
I was thinking about mounting the monitor in the dash, but decided against it, as I wasn't overly confident in my ability to fabricate the mount pieces required. I opted for an on-top-of-the-dash approach. Some of my friends say my monitor mount looks like something out of rambo. (It is made from a piece of square steel tubing and pressed flat steel.)
I also installed bluetooth, wireless network, and a USB GPS mouse.
I have not done any exterior body work YET!! Waiting for the wife to approve that one first.
Well, enough said, here are the pictures. Enjoy. Let me know if any of you have any suggestions/comments.
Nice man !
Is the whole computer in the place for the jack?
It doesn't overheat?
Other than that, looks awesome, good work
My setup has matured a bit since these photos, I got new seats, and a new center console where the carputer now resides. Sorry I do not have any new pictures.
