    My '91 Accord EX carputer

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to these boards - I've just been using them as a resource 'till now. This is (probably fairly obviously) my first carputer project...so be nice
What I've got here is a '91 Accord - no major modifications and about 151k miles. I started this project early this summer by scrounging for old computers. I found an old HP with a Celeron chip (it's like 900 MHz or something...i don't really remember) with around 512 megs of ram. I bought a 7" Lilliput touchscreen for the display, put that where the headunit usually goes, and moved my headunit to the glove box. It's kind of a ghetto rig (i kinda cut a hole in the back and just jammed it in), but it works. I didn't feel like buying an amp or another cd player, so the sound is currently running through an in-line FM modulator. It kinda looses it's quality once i turn up the computer's volume past 10% (and the CD player at 100%), but it gets loud enough for now. The cd player is a Panasonic CQ-DP 383U, so if anyone knows a better solution, please do tell. Also, I couldn't get the hibernate to work because whenever I would resume, everything would work fine until i touched the screen which would cause a reboot. So, some input for that would be greatly appreciated too Oh, and i'm using an M2-ATX HV pwr supply.
    Here are some pics:

I had some nice blue LEDs laying around, I figured i'd throw them in for good measure

Another shot - my carpet is dirty

I put a fan on either side, blowing the same direction. I figured this would keep the air moving inside.

Here's my screen mount, complete with sunflower seeds. The two red things are a power button for the computer and a power switch for the FM modulator.

Another view - I'm using Road Runner. So yeah, it's a pretty sick front end.

My ghetto cd player rig. That's the modulator on top.

K, that's about it. Thanks for reading!

Oh nice, thanks - i will try that.

I was also thinking about adding a GPS for the future, so i was wondering how difficult that may be.

The lanyard looks to be CSU, but might be UCCS? maybe?

Anyway, for a first install, it looks fine. For the next step, I'd say carpetting the box, and molding the screen in would make it look a lot better. Why the apple logo on the plexi? Isn't it all PC? (HP)

To add GPS, you would just need to buy a GPS receiver, and some GPS software. A quick glance at the GPS forum will lead you to the right one. A lot of people use iGuidance, or Garmin Mobile, or Microsoft Streets and Trips, but there are a whole slew of them to choose from.

There are some bundles that include software and the receiver, but sometimes the receivers included only work with the software that comes with them.

The only other criticism I'd have for you is to take your car for a and

Yeah...It's actually clean compared to what it was before/during the install.

As for the lanyard - it's just something i got up in Estes park, but I live in Littleton (or, if you're from "Lakehood", you could call it L-Town, suburb of The 303) and am planning on transferring to Mines. Good to see some Car-PCers in CO!

    UPDATE:
Last week i was parked on campus at school and everything (LeTourneau University, for those of you who are curious) and my head unit and touchscreen were stolen. Yeah. Sucks. I bet these kids don't even know what they stole (they just cut every wire off of the screen rendering it virtually useless...well unless they go through the trouble of finding an adapter. yeah, right). Stupid punks

That sucks, sorry to hear that. I think if you would have had the screen molded into the dash, they would have left it alone, due to its complexity in getting it out. Also anyone that has a carpc, I most def recommend buying a good alarm system that has at least a 1 mile range and can page you when people mess with your car. I would have ran out there and beat the persons head in. How much you want a bet he/she thought that the screen goes with the HU to play video. Wont he/she be happy to find out they both dont go together.
