i have a '97 lumina and would like to mount my screen similar to yours, but does the 1.5 din slot block any of the screen on the top or bottom? or is the entire screen visible and usable in these pictures?

i think my question made sense.

oh and, how is the viewing angle there?

Viewing angle is great for both the driver and passanger.
If you want to use the OEM opening you will sacrafice the screen size. This install was with out cutting the bottom opening wider. The screen res in this picture is 640X400. I had to use power strip to force the resolution and to drop the screen image down.
Right now there is nothing in my car. I'm currently making a new bezel for it. I dremeled out the bottom so i can use the whole screen. Pictures will be up soon of this.
Left to right there are no issues. If you want to make the screen flush as possiable to the front of the opening you have to FLIP (yes, flip) the screen upside down and make your graphics card software turn windows right side up. The bottom portion of the dash is rounded so space is a real issues unless you want to hack the dash and extend the opening more ( which i didn't do). Turning it upside down give you lots of clearance. I had to dremel down the inside of the air condition vent to give the Top (really the bottom of the screen) more room to fit. I'll get a picture up in when i get home to show you. The pictures will explain what i'm talking about. Do you have the same dash as me?

yeah, i have the same dash. I personally don't want to cut my dash down, and i might end up doing what darky83 did here so that i can have a fullsize removable screen. but it seems like your setup does the job pretty well with the shrunken res in the 1.5 din.

also, where did you run the wires throughout your car?

i will have to give this some thought.

Here are the pictures of what i'm currently doing for the screen.
again the bottom needs to be dropped down. the screen was flipped around to make room or the screen would have been pushed back.
Only primer has been applied. Take note to the airvents, that bottom portion has been cut away to make room for the screen. I cracked my 1st screen doing a test fit of the dash. Inside the dash hole there is a spot that is too high so i busted out the dremel and shaved it down a bit (pointing with screw driver). The dremel was also used to drop the opening more for the screen.

as for the wires.
The Video, power and usb for the screen are ran behind the dash and down the driver side plastic trim that holds down the carpet. it was a pain getting the plastic trim back down. My Car microphone for the phone was also ran down the left hand window trim and down with the other wires.
A single USB wire which ran from the trunk up under the carpet under the center console for my usb hub for bluetooth and Pocket PC phone.

My opus power supply is set to operate in push button mode. I used the auto start function for about a week and got tired of the unit booting up when I started the car to roll up the windows.

I personally wanted the install to look OEM as possiable so having the screen outside of the dash drew too much attention. A friend from work got a flip out screen and it works for him but he has a lot of things going on. My main goal was to be clean and simple (new year resolution to keep my car clean).

The whole reason for cutting the dash opening wider was that Destinator that came with centrafuse. I am not really diggin' it for the Nav. I am gonna get garming PC for Nav and also use Iguidance. Garmin and I nav have a set resolution of 800x600. So the keyboard for those programs were cut off b/c of the low screen resolution.

Did you understand the whole cutting the air condition vents on the inside, cutting the inside dash (bottom portion) and turning the screen upside down?

yeah. i understand the whole cutting on the inside of the dash, and the flipping of the screen.

have you considered wiring in a three way kill switch to your powersupply? something that gave you an option for an ON, OFF, and AUTO startup?

I don't know if you smoke or not, but i think that we could hide some extra switches or hubs in the flip down ashtray spot.

Never thought of the three way swtich thing.
I like the usb hub under my seat b/c its out of the way and if i don't use it i can tuck it away. The whole having usb ports in view doesn't sit well with me. I do smoke, but i don't use the ash tray. Come friday i'm gonna start painting the bezel.
Have you decided how your gonna get your screen in?
I'm so excited there is someone else who has a car like me and is taking on the project (yeah it sounds weird).
I am having a problem connecting my girls Ipod to my computer. Centrafuse doesn't see it but windows does. I think it has to do with the lenght of my usb cables. I have two extension in use. One for the Screen and one for my hub. I haven't tried installing a new usb hub in my PCI slot. Think its a power issue. Oh well not really important.
