Great Job can you view my thread and give me some advice? http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/fabr...ome-ideas.html I want to hang the f500bt from my roof like that or maybe do a top of the dash install
I just ordered JL Audio CL-RLC to work as a pre-amp improve my audio level and hopefully increase the quality. Today I really cranked the volume and the background noise was much more noticeable.
Okay, I have installed CL-RLC pre-amp. Easy. You just need to give 12v, ground and ACC lines, and then find a place to connect the volume button (it's a regular RJ-11 cable, so easy to find if you need other lengths).
Here's how I connected the volume button:
I removed a blank from this buttom row on the driver's side. We have a blank button, LDW (Lane Departure Warning), Snow mode (4x4 front rear 50% lock up to 18mph), VDC (Stability control), another blank.
These buttons can only be removed from the back, you lift tabs with a screw driver and you're set.
More importantly, audio quality is greatly improved. I should have done this long long time ago.
I also recently bought an antenna for my cell phone (Motorola V3xx) from where I connect to the Internet. I have good connection speeds, most of the times, but not everytime. I also wanted to hide the phone inside the console (it's permanently connected to the computer via USB cable), it works better with a view of the sky, so I figured, with an external antenna it must be even better right? Well, sort of. It's very hard to say, since it depends so much on time of the day, where I am, etc. Once thing I can say is that I don't loose connection as often.
So I went ahead and bought this magnetic antenna:
Since AT&T uses exactly those bands, I went ahead and bought it. Except I bought a bundle (antenna + specific phone adapter) from Amazon for $29.00...Same antenna, only $10 cheaper, plus you get the adapter. Great deal.301103 - Wilson Cellular Dual-Band Magnetic Mount Cell Phone Antenna

I'm going to go out and take some pictures and post it back.
Here some pictures:
View from the back:
Detail were the cable goes into the hatch:
I could have use this grommet, but decided not to. I would have to dismantle more plastic inside that way. Instead, I went around inside the rubber sealing the hatch door.
Hummm, I should put some foam or tape here to help this kink...I gave it some wiggle room though, there's plenty of space inside the rubber (I think).
From here, it goes inside the plastic finish, then under the seat, under the carpet, then under the center console, where the phone is now located. It's being charged by a powered hub from the computer. When the computer is on, it charges the phone, and it connects to the web. Of course it's on silent mode, etc. I would like to be able to dial/send a text message and interact with the computer somehow. Gotta do some research on that. Maybe perhaps even get the car location or talk to the car via SMS and get OBD data, or even stop the car remotely?
And this is the antenna adapter for the V3xx. It is hidden below the console area, impossible to know it's even there.
So that's it. I think this was the last thing missing. Now back to tinkering here and there.
I think I'm going to move it to the completed section now.
My wife drove it every single day for the past two weeks, using the carputer for music/podcasts and books, it also went to 22.500K miles service, came back, no problems - carputer still working .
This car never gave me any trouble at all. Now the computer seems fine, hybrid sleep is instant on, no BSOD, no hangs, nothing. Hardware wise, it's done.
Only the software side is lacking. CF3 is a mess (no playlists) and Road Runner Carwings in there still needs some polishing (wife always finds a way to mess with it or get lost, and she is very savy with computers) - Carwings needs some direction, maybe Pierre and Carputer1 and Fixerofallthings could set up a meeting or something to get the best looking skin to the next level with voice and menu animations and work on some detail -, but I'm not good at skinning, beggars can't be choosers, so I'm waiting on DFX5 and Elite 2 skins to be finished and see what happens.
So yes, going to move this thread to the completed section. Gotta start working on the Sequoia soon.
Great build RipplingHurst. Keep it up. Any updates?
Thank you so much.
None so far. Wife has been driving this one non-stop, so I just turn it on for updating RR and Win7. Running as a clockwork, no maintenance issues so far since FEB!!!!
Wife however is happy, but she basically uses music and video. She told me she let a co-worker play with it for a while, and AMAZINGLY, nothing broke or BSOD'd or anything. I think that's the final test: a guy, with no carputer experience, trying to see "what this baby can do" and nothing went kaput...LOL
Keep in mind that, if it was ME using, probably something was not going to be perfect and I would probably screw it up trying to make it a tad better somehow.
Only thing I'd like to change now is the screen. I'd love to see a better, tranflective screen there, but I won't buy a lilliput no matter what. We''ll see what happens.
