If that Dlink is like my older one I have, that is a cradle it is plugged into. I got rid of the cradle, and used a USB extension cable. I then ran it under the molding in my back window, and had just the dongle itself exposed at the top of the window. I got really good signal compared to when I had it lower in the hatchback.

Some customers I do demos at do not allow you to use their Internet connections for security reasons.
I thought you had Verizon EVDO???

Doesn't Windows ask you if you want to connect to a network???

Maybe I've been using Vista too long or something, but unless you have it automatically set to log onto a network, it will ask or won't do it.

My G1 is fast on EDGE and even faster on 3G, so I don't think you would see much drop-off if you just used your cellular connection.

    Oh well.

I am using a Verizon V740 Expresscard EVDO Rev.A with a Cradlepoint CTR-500 router. This router takes care of the connection to Verizon and converts it to WiFi, so no client is necessary on the PC. The Dlink adapter connects to the Cradlepoint via WiFi.

This also allows passengers to use my Internet connection with their laptops, etc.

With EVDO Rev.A I get about 1.2mb down and 400k up. In some areas where they have provisioned more bandwidth at the tower, I can get over 2mb down and 800k up.

The problem I have with a setup like yours is that my family would never see me again because I would drive 24 hrs a day never leaving my car!

Very, very nice setup. Clean and extremely functional. Definitely one of the top installs!

Is Foldershare mainly for synching PCs that are not on the same network, like if its out of range of your home network it will synch folders as long as both are connected to the internet?

I see that you have an internet connection in your car - so you would not be on your home network.

I'm not finding too much info on it, I guess Live Synch has replaced it already.

LiveSync just replaced foldershare, but works exactly the same way. It will work either over your local network, or over the Internet. The software automatically chooses the fastest method of transfer.

For instance, if I am in my driveway, I connect to my local network, and it does the file transfer over my local network.

If I start driving the connection will swing over to my EVDO router, and the transfer will resume over the Internet, albeit at a slower speed.

Is there a reason you got the EVDO router setup instead of, say, a USB connect card for your PC?

I'm considering getting internet in my car (I'm with ATT) but I'm not sure the most cost effective way.

I think one reason is so that other people can share his EVDO connection? Doesnt ATT limit the data connection? One thing I like about Sprint is that they are very relaxed when it comes to the amount of data usage. I went with a USB EVDO card, and it works good. Mind you it does hang when coming out of hibernation sometimes. Maybe he also usues the router for that reason, doesnt that one connect though the ethernet port? That would make it much more compatiable and less likely to act up.
