I see that the eee is ssd your previous ones were normal hdd's?
No problems at all, really. I've always expected a bluescreen for harddrive read errors from shock movement but, never had I had any issues within the two years I've had a carpc in an offroad vehicle.

The Eee is just the "small/compact" line of Asus's machines.
There's the Eee PC's, Netbook laptops that are very small, work great, some versions had an SSD and not a HDD.
The Eee Box is a very small desktop, basically the Eee PC without the keyboard, mouse, webcam, etc.. just the desktop standalone computer, the newest version has native HD video decoding thanks to ATI and an HDMI output. All Eee Box versions also have SP/dif audio optical output also.
I am not running an SSD, maybe when prices get lower, which I know they will; I'll consider switching over. Right now running a hard drive in an a vehicle I occasionally take off road, I have never had a problem at all. No skips or pauses, no corruptions and sometimes I do take that rodeo in pretty rough areas. Working great !
I have tried to find different units and all are either way to big, or they run at some crazy voltage. I did notice though that this one runs on AC power. The Adapter says AC/AC, I have never seen that before. Maybe thats why it isnt working with DC adapters. Wonder if I can change something to make it DC.

You will have to find something that does the opposite of what a rectifier does. The rectifier is commonly found in an alternator because alternators GENERATE AC voltage, the rectifier converts it to DC voltage and then is regulated.
I'm wondering if this will work in REVERSE.

I actually have one of those on the way, but from OPUS ( I really trust their stuff). I dont think it will work in reverse though. Id there something I can do to the splitter to make it take DC? I may have to change the unit to a AC/DC unit, so I can connect to my setup.

I went ahead and ordered a new splitter, one that uses DC power, infact it has the option of using 9V or 5V. Wish I would have seen this splitter before.
