I have seen a few. My wife tells me I am making my van into and RV. Women sometimes fail to understand the things men do.
I am trying to make it look OEM but I am affraid to start cutting into the dashboard like some people.
I have a 1998 GMC Savana and I share your concern. I have a ham radio, a scanner, and a carputer I wish to install. My plan is to fabricate a box that will slide in where the radio went for the carputer. I still haven't decided where to put everything else.

Yes on top of being unskilled as far as fabricating dash componets I am anal retentive and never satisfied with what I do. So my point is if I start a project like that I think I will never finish it.
I do like the idea of including the ham radio in the setup. I have a older Cobra CB with a AUX line out.
As a suggestion, as my setup matured I eventually spliced all the USB devices and audio with CAT5 and moved the entire PC, inverter etc to the back of my van under the skirted bench seat. It can be a bit tedious but it allows you to move the larger components out-of-site.
The CAT5 that ran the length of my interior to the back of the van was concealed using conduit.
that looks like **** man
aka it looks horrible
