I'm reopening the carputer project in my Civic. A few things have happened recently that have forced my hand with this. First my liliput monitor stopped working because its a piece of crap. If anyone is considering a lilliput display don't buy it. I bought the transflective version from mo-co-so and it failed in less than a year and before that it was getting random key presses in the winter. I've come to terms with waste 500 dollars on that junk. Second i've become way too annoyed with the poor quality of the GM965 GPU. I've bought 3 mini itx boards and all have had GPU issues so instead of buying another gigabyte board to replace the one i have i've decided to add a PCI video card which leads me to the third thing that happened. Third I removed the mo-co-so case in order to get a PCI card. The mo-co-so case is not a bad case although it suffers from poor ventilation especially for a core 2 duo. This is why i couldn't use a PCI riser because the PCI card would block the ventilation holes i added so it was time to get rid of completely.

So here is what i'm doing to correct my issues.
    1. I purchased a revo-sys double din vga monitor w/ embedded mic. This was an excellent purchase. The screen works GREAT even in direct sunlight. By no means is it an optically bonded transflective screen but it works better than the crap transflective mo-co-so liliput screen i purchased. The embedded mic combined with the andrea usb dongle works GREAT too.. My only problem with the double din vga screen is it isn't quite double din. It would not fit in the scosche double din kit i purchased so i have to get a dash piece made. Portabuddy is doing my dash and THANKS AGAIN cause some other fabricators who will remain nameless are complete assholes.

    2. I have purchased a new case that can hold a low profile PCI card and appears to have good ventilation. The Antec ISK 300-150 seems to be a nice small case that seemingly has room for a m2-atx psu too. Obviously you will have to remove the 150W supply that is already in the case but that should be easy enough and then u have room for another fan

    3. I purchased a ATI Radeon 9200 PCI video card. If you are familiar with the card you will start to ask the questions "Is that low profile?" no its not. I screwed that one up so i'm going to have to buy another video card that is low profile. I'm not sure which yet but i will let everyone know when i decide. I first want to see if the PCI video card corrects the problem i'm having. I think it will but who knows. I broke off a capacitor earlier so i dunno this could've been a video line filter cap or something. We shall see.

    4. I'm purchased a rcjoycon module for my car and its the greatest thing since sliced bread. I may actually upgrade to the ex module just because i love it so much. Easy to setup and for those civic owners its super easy to install. All you have to do is tap into the remote wires and u are done.

Stay tuned for more pics and more information

Wow, sorry to hear about your Lilliput issues. Do you know whats wrong with it? I have parts laying around. I retired 2 EBY701s from my install (the ones for the top of the dash) because I want to use motorized screens instead. As far as my main dash screen, it will stay Lilliput because I spent a bit of money to have it made to my dash, or should I say my dash made to fit the Lilliput. As far as all the other screens, I dumped Lilliput and went for the VM70, which seems to work the same as the Lilliput, but better GUI. Wow, its seems like your bashing Mo-Co-So, I'm sure its the Lilliput itself, not the fact that Mo-Co-So handled it. Your being kind of unfair.

I have never understood why people like those cramped cases. There are so bad with ventilation because they are to thin. I mean the processor fan is literally so close to the case lid, thats a huge air restriction. I think a custom case should always be built. It also isn't that hard either.

My reason for going with the Zotac 9300 itx was mainly because it has a nVidia chipset. I would have preferred ATI, but i also needed the board to support quad core. Have you thought about using a different MoBo? If so, try a Zotac, their awesome.

I wonder what Fabricator(s) your talking about? Could it be the one that never answers emails at all. I wish I could do this cr@p myself, maybe I will get in contact with Portabuddy too, does he have examples of his work?

I don't have steering controls... I am thinking of maybe taking apart an old XBOX 360 controller and building custom controls. I bought a Sony RM-X5 remote commander, but its a wireless version and only Mitch makes a controller for it and he seems to busy to make me one :-(. If I did have controls though I would love to get my hands on the joycon EX, it like doubles and I think even triples the amount of buttons. So if you get it, go for the EX version.

No no no not bashing mo-co-so its not their fault the monitor is a piece of crap besides the fact that they sell it. I'm bashing this particular display from mo-co-so.

I wish i knew exactly what was wrong with the display. The screen touches are off and completely random at times. Recalibrating does nothing. I took it out of the dash and brought it inside the house to see if it was my dash setup but same thing. This particular display is fuzzy sometimes and i originally thought it was my GPU but its the display.

Cramped cases go with a cramped car lol.. Most people don't have a ton of room so if they are to use a custom case it would still have to be cramped. My new case is still cramped but has better ventilation.

I wish i went with a zotac but then i would've gotten killed on the processor and then the PSU.

This one answered just fine originally but then blocked contact from me. Apparently contacting him to do a job was aggravating. As you can imagine he won't have a fortune 500 company at any point in his life.

Portabuddy has a thread on here for his civic. He put a 10.2 inch screen in his dash.

So your control board is cr@p. Remember the EBY701 is built together as an all in one board, so if one thing goes, so doe the rest after awhile. What version do you have CCFL or LED version. If its a CCFL, then I have a board I can give you. If its LED, you can contact Lilliput and they usually will fix it for free. Infact what they did is asked me to send the broken board to them, then they sent me a working one.

As far as the case, your car isnt that small, well at least the trunk isnt... You could go alittle bigger, at least enough to have good ventilation. As far as space, I have less then you because I have more seats. I had to loose one seat and half of my trunk space to get my install in, lol.

What PSU do you have? Zotac told me a 200 PSU is fine with the setup, as long as its a dual core. They told me quad core will max out the PSU, thankfully they make the Quad COre S series that uses the same power as the dual core.

D@mn, can you PM the name!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im curious to know. I have alot of projects building up and I need to find someone to do this for me. So far I havent found anyone in Miami....

I have seen that on a Civic Forum, I was looking for something and saw his worklog, its more detailed then the MP3Car worklog. Does he only do work on Civics?

I believe i have the CCFL version. The liliput is basically a wash now. I had that double din casing for that is poorly made and every good push on the screen sent it into the dash so i'm done with that guy. Especially since i already bought the new one.

My idea was to make sure i don't take up too much trunk space. I wanted to be able to remove my spare tire so i have a false wall and that is mounted to the rear bar so that only leaves me a small amount of space. Maybe 3-4inch in depth. I thought the mo-co-so case would've worked and it would've if i didn't have that core 2 duo with the cheap mobile fans.

I have a m2-atx but would that 200W be enough for all USB devices and processor, RAM, and fans?

Sure i'll PM you the name lol.. Cabe is really good and he has his own section here. He is super expensive but he is good from what i hear. Portabuddy is good and not too expensive. I think he will work on more than just civics but i contacted him cause a lot of the stuff i wanted required having my car and since we have the same exact car it was perfect. Of course what i need now doesn't require the car but he is a cool guy and i like how anything is possible with him.

I just subscribed to this thread. I have an 07 Si as well that's going to have a computer soon, and finding your photos over on 8thGen was very inspirational.
