    2008 Pontiac G6 GXP CarPC Project Version 2

    My first plan was Here but I decided to change it up a bit.

    Intel BLKD945GCLF2 Motherboard
    2 Gigs RAM
    M2-ATX
    160 Gig HD (Not SSD)
    Lilliput 629GL-70NP

    Misc:
    Metra 95-3302 Kit (LCD mount kit)
    BU-353 GPS
    Zonet ZEW2500P Wireless adapter
    USB Cigarette Port Replacement
    Kicker ZX350.2 AMP
    Joycon steering wheel control adapter

    I'm probably missing a number of things, but they are minor if so.

    Software:
    Windows 7 RC1 (Why yes I know I have to reinstall this by 6/1/10, but, I figure the OS will be a mess my first time putting all the software together)
    Centrafuse with NA Maps
    I'm also playing with a number of plugins, I doubt I'll ever finalize them.

    I still have a few things to do, like cable cleanup(as seen in a couple pics), finding a place for the wireless adapter(probably simply on top of the case), and theres a bunch of things I'd like to add on, the list is too extensive to think of at the moment.

    So is that a power switch we're looking at in the last picture?

    My only critique is that the screen might look better centered in the bezel, but then you would have to relocate/lose the IR port. Overall, it looks really nice.

    Oh, was that a standard 1.5 din GM stereo in there before? The screen fits very well vertically.

    It's an ignition switch that goes to the M2-ATX. Eventually I'll put a 3 position switch in there connected to battery, ignition, off for always on, on with ignition, and always off. That was a last minute thought and I had one on hand.

    I'm having my buddy take a standard GM 2 DIN kit and the original LCD bezel and mold them together so hopefully that will look better, but I agree with you.

    It was a 2 DIN radio before, a 6 CD monsoon headunit.

    Just wondering if anyone will get this.. Had some questions on the audio hookup on your g6.. Having trouble with mine

    What kind of questions?

    I have a simple 2 channel amp with the speakers wired in parallel. There is no front/rear level adjustment but there is left/right balance via the windows sound control. I did have a monsoon amp, not sure if it makes a difference.

    I too had a question. Did you get your steering wheel controls working?

    I purchased the joycon ex and was wondering how you wired it up?

    I have a radio adapter GMOS-Lan-04, but not sure which wire to use to get the steering wheel control info from.

    It's pretty simple to wire that up. There is a 2 wire connector off of the Joycon, a white and black wire in it. White goes to the steering wheel controls signal wire, black goes to ground. USB to your computer, install software, map signals to keyboard keys, map keys to commands in your frontend, done.

    Before you ask, no I don't remember which is the signal wire, google is your friend.

    Wow Netsrikk thanks for the info.... I did get the instructions with the Joycon Ex, so that part makes perfect sense, but the wiring from the steering wheel is what I am looking for.

    I thought with the GMOS-Lan-04 I would have all I need to wire up the Joycon Ex. I was hoping there would be one wire coming out of the Lan-04 that would carry this resistance change when a button is pressed on the steering wheel.

    This was the info I was asking about, thinking the same would be true on the Pontiac.

    I went looking around and on the CobaltSS website I found the following:

    No exact wire / wire color was found, but other info was shared as I am sharing below.

    I have not had time yet to check this out, but maybe this weekend I will have time to find the correct wire...

    So on the vehicle side of the harness there are two wire.

    1) This is the wire that the head unit supplies the +10v to, since your head unit is gone, you just use a +12v supply from the car. This is the reference voltage

    2) This is the return wire, this wire is the one that carries the +12v signal after it's affected by the resistors. This is the reading wire you are talking about.

    The real key and this got me the first time is to make sure that wire #1 has some power supplied to it or wire #2 can't product that voltage output you need for your controller unit.

    So I can't be more specific, I install it many years ago. I will try to digg through the manual and figure it out.

    the radio DOES communicate on the Lowspeed GM-LAN line, it recieves VIN information for TheftLok, illumination dimming inputs, and signal for speed compensated volume.

    Some audio functions are available using the steering wheel controls. The steering wheel controls are actually a resistor network which consists of multiple momentary contact switches and a series of resistors. The switches and resistor network is arranged so that each switch has a different resistance value. When a switch is pressed, a voltage drop occurs in the resistor network which produces a specific voltage value unique to the switch selected. These specific voltage values allow the radio to identify which switch has been pressed. The radio responds just as if the corresponding radio front panel button had been pressed.When the radio is ON, the radio supplies approximately 10 volts to the switches on the 10-volt reference circuit. The specific voltage signal from the switch is returned to the radio on the steering wheel controls signal circuit.This may inhibit the use of the redundant control with an aftermarket head unit.
