Thread: 2001 Impala Complete Replacement

I used plastic epoxy and just put one layer thickness at a time until the depth was right. Then I put the ears on and epoxied over them. Make sure you take all electronics out of the case before you start working with it. The fumes from the epoxy are dangerous to electronics.

Well... My car is totalled. I told the insurance how much I wanted for the "Audio" system. I will be finding out how much if any they will give me for the audio system tomorrow. If they won't give me what I want I am going to tell them to remove all the add-ons so that I can come pick them up.

My new canvas is a 2004 Silverado Extended Cab, but I will need some time to totally redesign the system. If anyone has any suggestions as to the designs of the new system in the Silverado then let me know. The sad part of the whole thing, I never decided on a perfect front end.

tell me if you get your "audio" 'equipment' back and if the screen was cracked and it sounds like you ethier have bad luck or your a bad driver or the carpc thing is not the right thing for you

Well, the story is that the old lady did not see my bright red car and madea right-hand turn across two lanes of traffic. As far as the insurance settlement; I had roughly 2000 dollars in parts for the entire system and I had drawn up a fake receipt for about 5200 for the caost of parts and labor (which I did myself). The insurance gave me roughly 4800 for the sound system and 4825 for the car. They did not know that I had already taken the computer out before the car left the scene. Everything alse including the screen remained in the car. There were only minor damages to the system, but I did not test the screen.

Well, that was quite a build for your Impala and it's a shame that you totalled it after a few months of completion.

I have a 2002 Impala and did a much simpler setup with a laptop stored in the trunk and a Xenarc 700TSV mounted on the dash. I was always wondering if someone would post a thread on the Impala and possibly replacing the factory stereo with a 7" screen. I knew it would fit perfectly.

The only issue with removing the factory stereo is that a slew of car settings are embedded within the radio. For example, the oil life, tire pressure, key fob/horn settings are all controlled via the radio. Once you remove it, you're going to have a hell of a time resetting things, especially the "Low Tire Pressure" light.

In any event, I left the radio and speakers as is and just ran a pacific audio auxillary input into the stereo to get 2 additional rca jacks.

I also wired a line directly from the car battery to an inverter because I kept blowing out the 2cig adapters.

My system is definitely not the most secure against theft, but eh, works for me.
