I love this! This is exactly what I want to do with my project.
What numeric keypad did you use? How about a little text LCD? Have you tried wi-fi to sync media, or download podcasts?

I bought a keypad just like this one for $4 off eBay:

Text LCD would be really cool. For now, I just have a little cheat sheet that passengers can use to see which playlist corresponds to which number.
I want to add a wi-fi to sync, but for now I'm just connecting to the computer through my laptop and editing playlists that way.
Hadn't considered podcasts, but that opens up a whole other new avenue. Imagine being able to listen to online streaming radio too.
I know that Windows Media Player has a software development kit that would probably allow you to display things like song titles to a mini LCD.
I applaud your efforts and encourage you to keep going. But in this day and age, I feel that a carpc with no display is a waste.

My first install was same style. A P166 running off an inverter with a numeric keypad for control of Winamp.
Hooked up a few sounds to let me know what status was.
Simple yet effective!

very nice. I was just asking a friend to do this in his 2007-2008 SI. Maybe he will change his mind.
