1981 Custom Delorean Car PC Install

The Car PC will be part of my overall custom interior design. The plann called for a 7" touchscreen in the new dash, accessory USB ports in the custom console and the laptop and AC inverter mounted in the rear package tray area:

Initial fabrication of MDF and aluminum:

Built a jig that could hole the dash pieces in the proper orientation, but outside the car so I could do the fiberglass work:

Yep. fabricated it all. Thanks! When I bought the car, it'd been sitting outside for over 5 years, the entire original interior was sunfaded, cracked, the console was ripped down the side. It would've cost more to put back to stock than to do something custom. Personally I can't stand to drop a bunch of money on something just to make it look like everyone else's. The body was the same story. When I bought it, it was already painted (gloss black). Would've been a bunch of effort to strip and regrain the stainless and when I was done, I'd have had a Delorean that looked like all the others. So I decided to stay with a painted body. Then, before I really decided what I wanted to do with the car, I stopped at a traffic light in Ellicott City behind a Ferarri Testarossa. The thing looked like it was 2 feet tall and 12 feet wide. I got wondering what a Delorean would look like with similar proportions. So I photoshopped up a widened rear profile of the rear and that was it. I HAD to do it. So the body of the car was widened 8" from the doors back and that gave me the ability to add the side air intakes, another exotic detail I liked. With no kits available, everything was fabricated by hand. I read several books and learned a lot along the way about working with fiberglass, carbon fiber, kevlar/carbon hybrids, polyester and epoxy resins, and hand lay-up and vacuum assist techniques. I've detailed the build-up on my website: www.projectdelorean.com, but I'm always happy to answer any questions so fire away!
