cool. thanks for the responses. i was toyin around last night w/ my rca out and its pretty hard to read the text. i might try and just go w/ that dscustoms 7" VGA touchscreen. we'll see. i got lots of more r/d to do. thanks for you help -Ryan
OK, what that is, is simply the ability to put the screen facing up or facing down, it'll automatically flip the image 180 degrees for you. There is a little mercury switch inside that detects the orientation of the screen. It does not invert the image like a mirror would (which would be what a rearview camera would need).Originally posted by ryanerb
the lcd has a flip screen capability. Does the screen flip vertically and/or horizontally? (like for a rearview camera)
ans: I don't believe that the screen has a flip screen capability
take a look at the description:
""Ultra-cool "picture-flip" function lets you turn the screen upside down and have the picture automatically flip! Useful for mounting upside-down in a car. ""

I had a composite screen that I couldn't read text from well, but now I have a VGA screen that works great (the Xenarc hotness).
Is there such a thing as a composite screen that looks good?
or is the quality lost in the video card and not so much in the connection?
do different video cards' TV outs have different resolutions?
The question is, is it the screen, the card, or the connection that makes the image look clear?
All?

pretty sure its the screen because the resolution of a regular tft i think is like 960x234... if this is wrong, other members please correct me. -Ryan
the best tft resoltuion for a 7" screen you can find is 480 x 234 (1440x234 dots). I bought the composite xenarc screen 800x480 (2400 x 480 dots) but the 2 screens looked the same and the guy at xenarc told me that tv out's on computers were not outputting good resolution, so it didn't matter what screen i had. So, i bought the xenarc vga screen and it looks like a computer monitor. So, my real question is, is there a tv card that has good tv output resolution?

There are better cards than others for tv-out, but the main problem is the way composite video signaling is structured, you can only get so good.
You will never get as good a picture from a composite screen as you would get from a vga screen.

My next generation Front End is right on schedule.
It will be done sometime in the next generation.
I'm a lesbian too.
I am for hire!
ya but i have this via mini MB w/ a s-video output and it still looks bad...
I tried searching the forum with no luck - how do you do the one second hack? I've been using Streets & Trips with my Garmin eTrex and it takes forever for the screen to refresh.Originally posted by MontrealCL

I tried it with Streets & Trips 2001 and it works great, you basically need a hex file editor and edit 2 bytes in the .exe program.
i definently like the install!
you have gone farther for your install by having all your wires on a board all organized. one suggestion--when you have some time when your done--drill holes and pass the wires through grommets and wire it on the back side. looks neater. the piece you used to trim out your screen is fine. it just looks glossy cuz of the flash-but you knew that!
the more wires the better!!!
