Remote Control and Scosche Volume Switch Video Demo

Here is a demo of my volume switch and remote control with my galaxy tab. The switch and IR are not permanently mounted yet in this demo. I was testing before mounting.

New IR and Scosche Volume Switch Pics

Here are my pics and details.

This is just displaying a front view of where the IR is pulled through.

This is displaying the mini amp and the IR is plugged in.

The Scosche Universal Level (vol/bass) Control switch

These are the input connections from the bluetooth device and the volume switch.

These are the scosche volume switch connections that will plug into the back of the mini amp.

I am pulling the switch from behind the center of dash.

This is the audio cabling fed from the amp to the dash behind the passenger side panel.

Passenger side panel back in place.

Passenger side carpet back in place (location of the mini amp).

Both IR and volume switch pulled through.

Just some views of the mount since I had it out.

Dash back in place and the IR and volume switch is still not mounted yet.

From experience with the old IR I need to slice off the 3M adhesive on the back because it will not hold due to the crazy AZ heat. I am replacing it with 3M plastic emblem and trim adhesive. That stuff seems to work like cement with plastic. That is what I used for the acrylic sheet on the tablet mount.

Both IR and switch are now mounted using the 3M plastic adhesive.

    Rethinking the IR Location

After mounting the IR and volume switch I took a good look and started thinking..

"what if I modified that lower dash piece (A/C control section) by cutting an opening and mounting the IR behind that dash piece.."

That will make the mod looks more sleek and the manual volume control will be the only thing mount underneath in the center...I may play with this idea next weekend. Imma probably order another dashkit to test out.

Hey, great work with the android integration!

Have you found anything that will let you pair the Tab with an actual bluetooth phone for making phone calls? That is one piece of integration that is keeping me from exploring an Android based system.

How about steering wheel controls, if you have any? Since the Joycon can be programmed with a PC to send keyboard commands, I wonder if it could be used with the Tab as an 'external keyboard'. Just have to figure out if there's mapping software for Android that will let you assign key presses for certain actions....

Anyway, just a few thoughts. Let me know if you've heard anything about either of those two things. :-)

I actually used a solution found on XDA developers so that I can actually make and receive calls on my verizon tablet and the audio goes through my bluetooth integration so it's all good. I still will look at a solution that will enable me to pair both my phone and tablet at the sametime but what I got going on now works like a charm.

See my post #82 for details.

Yeah, I saw that post and it's a great workaround. I am looking for an app that acts more like a headunit with phone integration - it pairs via BT with your phone and lets you initiate regular cellular phone calls through the handset with voice commands by reading the phone's address book. I think Centrafuse supports this, too. I guess Android probably needs a proper vehicle front end written for it, which may require custom bluetooth stacks just like a PC does...

Not so much about what available on Android, it's the features that are enabled on the tablets. The CDMA tablets do not have the voice capabilities opened. But the GSM tabs (Sprint) have the voice capabilities. Since I have Verizon (CDMA) my tablet does not have the voice so my workaround is using the SIP with Google Voice integration. However, there may be a custom hardware solution that I can rig that will enable me to connect both my smartphone and tablet on the same Bluetooth receiver then I can use my phone for voice calls (and backup for tablet multimedia functions) and use tablet for everything else (music, internet, blah blah).

    Possible Bluetooth Hardware Upgrade

So I have been seeking a hardware upgrade to my bluetooth integration I have in my car. While the Scosche receiver can pair with multiple devices it can only connect with one at a time. For example if I have my tablet connected through bluetooth for music and a call comes in through my phone, it will not work through the bluetooth because the Scosche receiver cannot connect with both at the same time.

I came across the Parrot MKi9200 which apparently can pair and connect to multiple devices and stream through my car speakers as I am doing now. The logic behind this device essentially makes the music mute when a call comes in then unmutes after the call is complete. Even though it may not pause the music that still much better than what I have currently. I sent an email to the tech support just to confirm that I can connect multiple Bluetooth devices (phone/Tablet specifically) and it will toggle between the two for incoming calls.

The reviews have been mostly positive. I will know for sure whether to decide on this after I hear back from their technical support. The challenge I do see is where to mount it but I'm sure I can get creative with it.
