I don't think that I mentioned this but I created a tasker profile that performs a similar function like when I text my tablet to wake up. If buy MP3 downloads at home that I dig and want on my tablet, I can text my tablet to startup the android app "Remote Web Desktop" on my tablet. I then can connect to it over SSL and transfer the mp3's from the comfort of my home to my tablet which is mounted in my car.

This is just another example of the convenient cool stuff you can do with your "CarTab". The remote web desktop, by the way, for me was productive enough and worth purchasing the full version.

A similar (but free) app is AirDroid https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....sand.airdroid , main difference is that it works only on the same wifi network. But hey, it free and has most of the features of Remote Web Desktop

The wifi is good like you said as long as you are on that network. It will not be a good solution for more remote services which is what I need since my tab is in my car. I can be essentially anywhere in the world and connect via internet.

I have to admit Airdroid is a mighty nifty app. It's not ideal for connecting to my tab which is the car but this is awesome for working with my Droid Bionic. I don't need my USB. I still installed it on my tablet because I can see a situation perhaps in the future if we are out and I want to transfer something from my laptop to my tab. In that situation Remote Web Desktop may be a little much if all I need to do is connect over my hotspot using Airdroid.

My family is preparing to go on a little road trip. I uploaded a new YouTube video demoing how I will be using the hotspot on my tablet so my son or wife can enjoy using the Netbook or my laptop while on the road.

Just another cool reason for choosing a tablet as your carpc. All-in-one awesomeness!

wifi hotspot is a great feature, unfortunately all apps I've tried support only ad-hoc mode and android supports only infrastructure mode for connecting... so I can't connect to the wifi hotspot in the tab with my android smartphone.

Or vice versa, it would be great to use the data plan I have in my smartphone, creating a wifi hotspot, and let the car tab connecting to it and having only one data plan!

I can't speak to that because it works just fine for my tablet and my smartphone. I can also connect to each other.
