I recently installed this head unit in my daughters car.
Notice from the pic, the Bluetooth dongle is a separate USB piece. It can be plugged into either front or back USB ports on the Head Unit.

Also notice from the specs 5 features down on this web site it supports 2 full time phone connections. It does work too, when I installed it, we paired her phone & mine and both were connected, we would call her phone and her name would come up on the head unit screen , we would call mine and, mine would come up.

I assumed that dongle is proprietary to JVC software and that's why is works so good but what do you think the odds are that it could help us in "PC land" plugged into our PC's?

The challenge I had is while I can pair multiple devices, only one can actually be "connected" at a time (referring to audio). This is more due to the bluetooth technology, not so much the device. So I chose to connect my phone to the bluetooth for HandsFree and my tablet audio connected using the jack.

Now that I have the Tablettalk app (which I totally recommend) I can manage my phone calls using the tablet even though the handsfree audio is technically streaming through the bluetooth to my phone. So that helps close the gap.
I was thinking install two Bluetooth modules one for the phone and other for tablet and have them both working on an amp. So I won't have to worry about one device kicking the other off the Bluetooth module.
And then I could have both devices playing of my truck speakers.
    You get me?
And to make it better last time I tested Tablet Talk (which I do have and I also really recommend) when a call comes in and you have Tablet Talk connected the music pauses and allowed you to answer call. Then once call is over music plays again.

The JVC unit looks cool. I imagine that if a call comes it that it probably pauses or mutes the music. I would think that should work. The only challenge is while they market that its compatible for Android , etc; you still need to validate the device compatibility. That was the issue I had with the bluetooth with my tablet. I could connect it but there wasn't complete compatibility with my device because it would pause/play the streaming music intermittently. So that was another reason I chose to just handle HFP and A2DP independently because I didn't feel like trying testing all these devices just to ensure compatibility.

I just have the one bluetooth module and tablettalk will still pause music on my tablet for calls coming in through my phone.

I've had a few questions regarding my cameras and rearview mirror/monitor. Tomorrow I will work on a video and a new post with some addition details.

Additional Details About 3-Way Split Monitor/Mirror

I have added a new post on my blog regarding the monitor. Here are some photos.

You can see the cable splitter coming from the rear top of the monitor:

You can see how the cable is fed up through the windows seal.

One other thing is that I have the monitor wired to be always on and not just when in reverse. This helps eliminate blind spots. I can see about two lanes over on each side plus the middle back camera allows me to see all three lanes behind me.

    CarTab Install 2.0

So I am now planning my design for next year when my upgrade comes up for my tablet. I plan to move my current tablet to the back of one of the headrests (passenger side). I will see what cool tabs are available next year. I'm sure hardware-wise they will have more to offer with quad-cores coming to the mobile computing world now. Can't wait.

Here are a list of new components I plan to add. It seems like a lot but it will be stretched through out the year. A few can be done at the same time.

    • Optima Yellow Top Accessory Battery (will be used for additional electronics)
    • Mobile DVR with wifi capability (to be integrated with my current cameras)
    • Two additional cameras (for internal- one for front, one for rear)
    • Complete Car wrap work (wrap sides white 3M carbon fiber)
    • Upgrade security system for integration with tablet/smartphone and automation tasks.
    • Upgrade Bluetooth module
    • Upgrade OBDII module
    • Retrofit front headlamps (projectors with switchback LED signals)
    • Upgrade rear lamps with LED
    • Upgrade internal audio system (speakers, subs, amp)
    • Direct bolt on Lambo door kit -- oh yes I am.

Well I tried and tried to find those cameras you bought. I eventually decided to go with different cameras. These that I have are tinyyyyyyyyyyyy. I mean you barely notice them. I placed mine in the front fenders because I wanted to be able to see my rear tire, and curb. Also if people walk up to the car I wanted to the camera to catch their face (cops). Just in case something happens.

You see that tiny little black circle on the fender. Thats the camera. I thought the quality was going to be bad, but these cams actually work nice. They have those guide lines on them, but it actually helps determine distance.

Products links please. They look really covert and will avoid unwanted attention.
