Thread: 2009 Altima Dash Mount Android Tablet PC

I just adhered a few acrylic scraps to the back of the acrylic window and dash kit just to secure it a bit more...I doubt I needed it. The paint is drying and I am anxious to just go ahead and install the dash kit and mount tomorrow. Of course I will not consider leaving it in the mount (e.g. if I walk into a store, etc) until I get my windows tinted. (out of sight out of mind)

So finally! I got my tablet mount installed and it works fabulous. I drove around town testing it with the bluetooth audio streaming and Tunein radio app. Perfect!

Stay tuned for pics. Oh, I also installed my PLX Kiwi bluetooth OBDII device.

After riding around town with my new tablet and mount throughout this afternoon I see where I may want to make some modifications. It's nothing that impacts functionality though in fact they're rather minor. I created a slit for the USB power cable on the bottom left.

Now that I actually used it more I may create a hole closer to the center (offset a bit) near hole for the mount bolt. This would be for aesthetics than anything else. I also found that even though I can pair multiple bluetooth devices with the Scosche UBRH only one will connect at a time. So..unless I find a way for my voice calls to go through the tablet (not designed for that) then I will have to rework this solution. That's not a big deal because I can work around that. I may test my google voice and see how that will do. I know I can text fine from the tablet. In any case for now I have the core components installed and they work perfect. Tunein app streamed flawlessly throughout my journeys this afternoon. Nice! I got to listen to my favorite radio stations from DC and PR..who needs satellite..plus I can still listen to my local music.

OK...ok now that I got that out of the way on to the good stuff.


I should scuff and paint this to match the scosche double din kit but that's minor and doesn't impact functionality. I may work on that tonight.




AHHH! Where's my dash? ..just kidding. Time to install the custom stuff.

Yeah..so maybe this is my first time installing an aftermarket dash kit. The sides are labeled "left" and "right"...duh!.. somehow I missed that minor detail. Its all good because it turns out that I didn't need those side pieces anyways so I just cut them off. All that acetone plastic melting for nothing. At least it was fun..

I also drilled a hole in bottom of my center console storage bin for the USB power cable. I fed the cable to the front for the tablet.

Of course this project is far from complete. I can say that this tablet install was super fast as compared to my old project where I was modifying my center console. This time I did not have to cut up my dash allowing me to keep most of the stock stuff, minus the dash kit and my one hole I drilled for the USB cable.

I just have no need for a complex PC because the tablets and smartphones these days pretty much do what I need...makes for a quick project.

So my next steps are to get my LED ground kit installed and windows tinted. I then want to upgrade my stock speakers and eventually install subs. I am giving my wife the system I had in my old car.

Oh..yeah.. I forgot to mention that due to the crazy heat my IR will not stay put with the adhesive it came with. I will need to replace with the adhesive I used on the dashkit.

Nice install, it came out looking really nice, Im looking to do a similar thing with my Samsung Tab 10.1 in my scion TC

On a side note, my frontend should get a stable working release in a few days (i have 8 days off so gonna get a lot done) would be nice to get an actual in car test and see how it handles while actually driving.

Awesome. Yes I am extremely satisfied with how it came out. Again its not as extravagant as other custom dash mounts but its simple and flexible.

So I had some drama with my Samsung USB driver on my Win7...DUH! I have 64bit. For those who overlooked this as well. You can get the drivers at the links below. They state for samsung phones but it works for the tablet also.

I like it. Looks clean and right where it should be. I got my win 7 drivers, for 64 bit too, when I rooted and installed gingerbread on it, I think I just installed a Samsung app called kies or something like that.

I once paired a BT headset to my tab, but it made a call - not completed of course, came an AT&T message, cost me .40 cents though (I had cancelled my plan, but if the call is not even possible how can they...)
