1997 Acura CL (Capacitive Touch, GPS, DVD, HD Radio, Backup Camera)

I've been a member of the forums for quite some time. Don't know why I have never posted my projects. Recently got back into the forums and carpc's after getting a great deal on this car. This is my second carpc build. The car is a 1997 Acura CL V6 fully loaded, BOSE, lowered, headers, HID's, blah.

    Hardware:

    Intel D945GCLF2 Motherboard
    100 GB Seagate Hard Drive
    NZXT Internal USB Hub
    MSI Starkey Bluetooth
    HP Internal WIFI Board
TEAC Slotload DVD-RW with USB Enclosure
    BU-353 GPS
    Directed HD-Radio with MJS Cable
    M2-ATX with upgraded PIC
MiniTouch 700 with 3M Capacitive Touch Screen
    Ebay Backup Camera
    Morex 5677 Case

    Software:

    TinyXP SP3
    CentraFuse 3.1

    Car Audio:

    Stock Acura Bose sound system
    2 Infinity 1062w
    Scosche EFX sealed box
Nitro 4CH Amp 300 Watt (Pushing interior speakers, Tiny amp, will fit in the palm of your hand)
MTX Thunder 360 Watt (Pushing the subs)
PAC Audio Interface (Adapter to keep the stock Acura Bose sound system in place with carpc)

    The PC:

My goal was to keep every thing internal. I wanted the install to be as clean as possible. I managed to tuck everything inside the case. I mounted the NZXT internal USB on a bracket I made from some sheet metal. Gives me 8 additional USB ports with deticated 5V straight from the PSU. Also glued the WIFI card to the bottom of the hard drive bracket. Fits perfect, and drilled a hole to mount the antenna. I made a custom shorter ATX cable with a SATA connector and 5V connector for the USB hub. You can see the difference in size in the pics.

I mounted two "L" brackets to chassis in the trunk with JB WELD. The computer mounts to these brackets with a piece of sheet metal and some padding in bewteen. The reason I mounted the PC in this location because I still wanted to have my spare tire and still have access to it. You can't see it, but the HD-Radio is mounted on the backside of the computer.

My Bluetooth, DVD, and touchscreen are extended to the front of the car in the dash area with 15FT 20 Gauge USB extension cables. Any cable thinner than that you WILL have power issues.

I made a custom usb port out of an ebay USB charger and an old USB printer cable. I gutted my cigarette lighter and the thing fit perfect. This makes it really easy if friends want to get some music, or hook up my phone for tethering. I was even able to get the led working to show power for the comupter. May be in the future I will hook it up to the M2-ATX led to show what the PSU is doing.

My backup camera is totally invisible from outside the car. You can only see it when you get down close. Its wired straight to the screens AV2 and switches automatically.

    The Screen:

I purchased a Double Din ByByte frame. I extended the frame to fit my dash size with from 1/4" ABS sheets and epoxy. I used the Bondo Bumper Repair Kit. Then I gutted the MiniTouch for the LCD and controller. Added my 3M Capacitve touch screen. I made sure too take pictures of the screen in direct sunlight so you can see how great it is. The picture actually makes it look worse than it is. The modified frame I made is just a temp until I have Nexson make a better one.

    Results:

I have little problems here and there, but thats what makes the hobby fun. Always something new to fix or add-on. Sorry for the pics, there were taken with my phone. I will be adding more pics of the setup and car in the next day or so.

love the backup cam install. Where did you get that slim cam? Does it show guidance overlay on the screen?

@v7guy, thats my GPS reciever. I wanted it in view so I can make sure I can see the status led blinking.

@Sonicxtacy02, I dont know the brand name. Just search for Audi backup camera or rearview camera on ebay. It was only 25 bucks. And yea it does have the distance bars on the screen. But I actually like them. Once you do a little testing at home to figure out how close you can get by using the on screen guides, works good.

Thanks. I think it looks better than the one for sale in the mp3car store. And cheaper, it was only 3 bucks.

Isn't the Minitouch 700 already a touchscreen? Did you take off its stock touch panel and replace it? If so, why?
