    Man That's Cool.

I've been tempted many times to do something like this. I just don't have a clear picture as to what to do for an amp. Are there any turnkey solutions that would take the audio from the tablet and drive the speakers?

I just mounted an amp under the passenger seat with a volume control in line using a potentiometer.

My next experiment is taking a mini bluetooth keyboard apart and soldering the home, play/pause, next track and volume buttons to the steering wheel controls.

    Will report back soon!

I thought about this for ages, but because I couldnt find a hard case for the viewpad and due to the curve on the focus dash it made it would have made it almost impossible.

    Always plotting though!

So it's been a while since I tinkered with the project, I've got it set up how I want with all the tasker profiles running properly, and it's really reliable.

I'm still looking in to Bluetooth controls, and the new challenge accessing the camera for reversing.

Having broken the headphone jack off the tablet by accident, I had to replace the motherboard. Found an old smashes tablet on eBay and stole the parts.

I want to extend the cable from the camera so I can mount it on the number plate on the back of the car. How do I do that?!

Somehow I'm sure I can either solder the wires or find a plug and use some cat5 cable. Any thoughts?

Looking REALLY good! I realy like the ignition controll

I dont own a tablet so far. But I'm testing some apps and the road capability with my car mounted Desire HD. What I really miss is a good frontend which has the basics included itsself and runs the navigation embedded - Where I can see and controll what I hear while navigation without switching apps. And of course a way to remote controll the tab. Guess I'm spoiled by my old SpaceNavigator integration. I played around with the WiiMote to controll at least the audio player...it works but not well.
Do you controll your tab only via touch?

You don't extend the cable. The signals for the camera is clocked at 25 MHz or more, and won't even survive more than a extension of 10 centimeters that is designed properly and shielded. Sorry mate...

Yeah, if you really need that reversing camera then the best bet is to use an old webcam, if you can get USB Host mode on your tablet, if not then you need a way to send webcam signals via Wifi.

There are probalby more ways to get a camera signal to android too, but the tablets own camera will not work...

And YES MY GOD I like this thread been toying with the idea of a carputer myself and I love everything android I managed to order a Raspberry PI board though so I will see if i can get that to play along with XMBC well enough to be used as a CarPC.

And your idea for those steeringwheel buttons might actually work, if you're able to solder to the contacts of the old switches, but does android recognize media buttons? such as next, pause, and play? As my Ubuntu desktop is having a hard time understanding them and android is linux based :/
