BMW E46 Android install (INCLUDES BUILD LOG / DIY)

    Hi guys,

This is my attempt at installing the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 into a BMW E46

    Key goals and achievements:

    - OEM look (thanks to Rich for an awesome bezel (http://www.mybimmer.net/CarPCLCD.htm))
    - Kept original BMW stereo system in place
    - Ease of use
    - Ability to control volume level using steering wheel controls.
    - Never needing to use tablet's hardware buttons (app replacements and booting the tab automatically if it is OFF).
    - DLNA WiFi router + portable HDD
    - Torque

.. Still working on IBUS integration.

Enjoy the photos and video below

An article on how i built this can be found here: www.bmdroid.co.nz

Since the photos were taken, the tablet has been upgraded to CM10 with JellyBean

Nice, what live wallpaper are you using?
And how did you get Torque gauges on the launchscreen? I have the latest Torque but can't see how to add Torque widgets?

This is "magic smoke" live wallpaper. Not sure if it is available on the android market but it came with CM10.
To put torque widgets on homescreen you need to get Widgets For Torque app from the market.

so portable hdd goes to the dlna router to then serve the media to the tablet? super clean install btw.

edit: just watched the video and that dlna setup is very slick. what i was even more impressed with was the deep tasker customization you have. would you mind posting/sharing your tasker configs for the rest of us?

Hello, what was your method for powering the Tablet so that it turns on and off with the car? Where did aquire the parts & do you have any images or WALKTHROUGH's for that?

I keep mine on 100% of the time. No need to power on or off. I just time out and wake up the display by sending a text and using the tasker app

Where did you place the radio? Is it behind the Droid tablet? Does the new bezel allow you just put the tablet if front of the stock radio?

Thanks Hexx, I just got my Grom Audio adapter in Yesterday & installed it. I'll probably get the Nexus 7 this weekend and use that as my 7" screen. I'm just trying to figure a good way to wire the aux/USB/audio-in cables so I can play off my phone, use bluetooth but still keep the factory setup in case I sell it in the future.
