I have a Creative Sound Blaster Z SBX PCIE audio card that has a great preamp output, then I built a audio switcher that has 5 volt relays so when the pc is off the hd radio controller under the monitor will provide audio to the amps . when pc is turned on the usb provides 5 volt to the relays and switches to pc audio from the card. MAKE SURE AND GROUND YOUR COMPUTER CHASIS GROUND TO CAR GROUND OR YOU MIGHT GET SOME NOISE.

love my directed hd tuner built a switch for the controller that uses the directed controller to control tuner when pc is off and when pc is on it uses the riderunner front-end with DFX5.1 skin to control the tuner. MP3.car sells adapters to make this possible

I would love to see/hear more about your audio switcher with relays and, I looked in the MP3.car store and didn't know exactly what product you meant about the directed controller to control the tuner when the PC is off (Mitch JS USB audio selector?)

    Thanks....love your setup!

Not sure what route they used but I am going this route for having the directed screen and still be able to use with a pc. http://store.hawkesintl.com/midin8swbo.html I got 2 so I can see if it can be controlled by relays. But this seemed the simplest. SNO

the usb cable product Code: COM-138 at the mp3car store Price: $37.95 can be used with Visteon HDZ300 and Directed Electronics hd tuners I have the Directed version . My audio switcher is comprised of 2# DPDT (double pole double throw) 5volt relays, you want to use relays that are rated for the LIGHTEST duty you can find , heavy duty relays can add a spike noise when they are powered. Got mine at radio shack , you can find them cheaper online. One relay for the left channel and one for the right channel . there is an easier but a little more expensive way you can buy a (PIE MPSS-2 2-Channel Multi-Purpose RCA Audio Source Switcher ) and on SPST 5 volt relay to trigger the 12v audio switcher, you also need a simple car audio (PREAMP thru RCAs) volume control usually $ 15.00 I only had an audio switcher because I was using both Sirius-xm and hd radio together. the switcher I built for the hd radio controller is needed if you want sound when the pc is off. Later today when I get off work I will post a diagram on how to make that switcher

    AUTOMATIC HD RADIO SWITCHER

    parts list

2# 6Ft Apple Mac Serial Device Cable ( 8 pin mini din ) 4.99 each EBAY

    4# H02151-01C Relay DPDT 5v " $3.99 each at "HOBBY ENGINEERING"

1# radio shack project box $5.99

1# usb charger cable "not sync cable" charger cable will only have power and ground in them.

NOTE : cut both 8 pin mini din in half, you only need 2 # female ends and 1# male end , each of the 8 wires usually have different

colors makes it easy to match up to relays.

The 3# 8 pin mini din cables will all have an unsheilded wire no need to go to the relay with them just connect all 3 together.

NOTE : If you get relays elsewhere the N/o (normally open) and N/C (normally closed) and C (common) , might be in diferent locations

but all relays should have a schematic telling you where the N/C and N/o and C are located

I CONNECTED WIRES TO THE START BUTTON OF THE PC AND RAN THE WIRES TO A SWITCH ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL. BOTH SWITCHES ARE FUNCTIONAL
    Impressive.
