I was wondering if anyone could give me suggestions as to nav software - I'm looking for something to run on a carPC that I can use from Canada. Thanks!

I don't know if you're still getting audio noise from your system, but down at radioshack they have little automotive noise filters, that you hook up in-line, and they do a surprisingly good job. RS Part #270-051 - they run like $16. They sell a 20amp version as well. It'd be best to put it between your 12VDC line and computer supply.
There's nothing you can't do, so don't be discouraged just because no one else's done it.
Hey gork,
This is an awsome install. I also have a BMW (2002 E46) and I am planning on putting a carputer in it. I was wondering if you could tell me how you are using the Ibus to interface with Mediacar. Are you able to use the steering control to control the volume? If so, do you mind telling me what software you are using. I have been looking on the Hack the Ibus forum but couldn't find and solid solution. Thanks.
Hey gork,
I have a 2003 325i, and I was hoping to do almost exatly what you have done. Do you have any deatiled cost sheets, any way to trim costs ( im only 16 so money is tight). I really like how you did the install, b/c i want to scream when I see how people rip up their BMW's and turn something that looks good into a POS. If you have already answered my question, SORRY.
off topic, but "jalli", being 16 and have a bmw, how are you tight on money, did you spend all your paycheck on you car payment, jsut wondering, what happens if **** happens to you car and you have to change a part or get some work done,
now on topic,
if money is tight i would recommend to save up and then start the project, because it can get expensive, and in a bmw, i am pretty sure you want to do it right the first time, and get some good parts to build it, just my 2cents
I got the car b/c my dad sells cars and we were able to get a REALLY good price on it( good friends with local BMW dealership). He regards money spent by me on my "crazy projects" as "wasted". By the way, its 2003 so I have the warranty.
gork,
how did you extend the power cable (4-wire atx power cable y/b/b/r). What gauge are the wires ? Do you run all the cables (vga+usb+audio+power) in a single bulk? or did you route power and the others seperately?
pretty nice work, btw.

If anyone cares, the radio in Strahleman's car look like the module above the radio in the old 7 series ( tape player, equalizer etc.), If so and It uses the same contols it must be a NIGHTMARE to operate ( or maybe I never learned how to use mine right) . The display is probably better than the one BMW sticks us with though...
is the I-Bus WheelKey software publicly available?
